From FB today, re: Obama being in Chicago today.
(did not list the names, added a carriage return between responses - having fun with people on there today!)

Obama picks Memorial Weekend to go home to
Chicago instead of following traditions and speaking at Arlington
Cemetery. The President is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces
but HE needs a break on the ONE day we are supposed to remember troops
and all they've done. Repost this status if you think our troops are
......worth remembering........ wonder how the people that voted for him are
feeling NOW..See More

Why is Joe Biden addressing everyone at Arlington and not the President of the United States? Obama could have taken a vacation next weekend... Could we be any more embarrassed as a nation?

President Barack Obama, meanwhile, canceled his planned Memorial Day remarks at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois, due to a heavy storm. He instead visited the Hines Fisher House, a non-profit facility outside of Chicago that provides temporary housing for families of wounded veterans undergoing rehabilitation.

(me) Reagan and bush did the same, Obama was there last year.

when did reagan do this , or bush

i did find documentation that says Reagan missed a year and Bush never did it. Whatever happened to tradition and honoring our brave on a day specified to honor them?

(me) http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20006346-503544.html

(me) Reagan 83, bush 92, more at link

Obama is the 1st democrat in 42 years to miss it:(

How many dem presidents and for how long over the last 42? :)

Since 1969 dems have been Presidents for 12 years (not including Obama)

So you mean 3 of the mughty Republicans missed it??!! Funny, I don't remember hearing all the backlash about it...

Well, like I said before - if they go, it is a photo op, if they don't they get yelled at, a lose-lose situation. People should just up and admit they are biased and hold some to differing standards. I am a registered Independent for a reason, I don't trust/like any of them :) I don't have a loyalty to a party I have to defend to make them look good, I have a loyalty to an ideal.

well said, .it doesn't matter who does what, someone will always complain.

both parties raise what the other parties mistakes ands lies were I was recently in DC reading the Washington post on what our congressman from west VA got voted out by the democrats for and it was called misinformation to the voters but I watched the senate vote that made him lose his job and they did not report on that, Hell they dident even ... See Morequote any voters from West VA. if you dont use the Internet and read all papers you cant make a honest decision. Obama is doing the best he can do, It is just not the best for the country. I never thought any president could make Clinton and Bush look honest. we need a third party or socialism is a shore thing to come.(

Conference without American Flags (a link from Fark.com, linked to FreeRepublic). Here is another Prez to hold one without flags (bush):

3. People are so anxious to find anything wrong with President Obama that
they are grabbing at every little bit of (usually false or misleading) news to throw oil on the fire!

Splitting hair. . .every day! So stupid and tiring!

Previous presidents have allowed others to lay wreath at Arlington Cemetery to honor troops

1983: Reagan attended summit meeting; Defense Department official Thayer laid wreath at Arlington. Deputy Secretary of Defense W. Paul Thayer laid a wreath at Arlington Cemetery during the Memorial Day ceremony in 1983, according to a May 31, 1983, Washington Post article (accessed via Nexis). The AP reported that President Reagan attended a "summit meeting in Williamsburg, Va., with leaders of the industrialized democracies."

1992: George H.W. Bush allowed VP Quayle to lay wreath. In 1992, Vice President Dan Quayle laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery on Memorial Day, according to a May 26, 1992, Boston Globe article (accessed via the Nexis database). The Globe reported that President George H.W. Bush attended a wreath-laying ceremony and made brief remarks at an American Legion hall in Kennebunkport, Maine, where he also played a round of golf.

Veterans Day 2007: Cheney attends ceremony to pay tribute at Arlington as Bush remained in Texas. On November 11, 2007, the AP reported that "President Bush honored U.S. troops past and present at a tearful ceremony Sunday for four Texans who died there." The AP further reported that "Vice President Dick Cheney went to Arlington to pay tribute to Iraq veterans."
