I had to bookmark this new web site -
Edited on Mon May-31-10 11:19 AM by MrMickeysMom
Someone just sent me something I then HAD to bookmark - Any here heard of Wolfram Alpha?
It serves a different purpose than Google and Wikipedia .

Watch the Introduction first:

http://www.wolframalpha.com/screencast/introducingwolframalpha.html

Then save the Site in your favorites if you like it:

http://www.wolframalpha.com/

Basically, it's the best scientific tool that I've input questions. Imagine using the internet for good problem solving solutions? Plus, it's got a lot of neat stuff that you get an idea about in the intro. For instance I put my first name in, then my sister's, which made me understand statistically why there are so few of us.

edit: grammar

15. Oh good... see if you can input the question I've asked for already...
I asked (in my own, sometimes poorly worded way) what pressure conditions were on the floor of the Gulf of Mexico in order to go against the pressure gradient of oil (and what other materials) for a total pressure. This was on the way of finding techniques used in medicine to repair ruptured blood vessels. Perhaps there are similarities in this to the repair of BP's blow out pipe.

They actually will attempt to answer a question and send you e-mail to alert your answer, which is very cool.

31. Here's one I'm not getting anywhere with and you might try for me . . .
Edited on Mon May-31-10 04:03 PM by defendandprotect
though I'm continuing to try --

Here's the problem . . .

When our country began, Founders complained that there was insufficient

representatives in USHR to represent the population --

I think in England, one representative covers something like 75,000 or less

citizens --

the last time I remember calculating the numbers based on # of reps in USHR

vs population, it was something like 750,000 per rep. A huge number, IMO.

I don't have a current number on this and I'd like to know --

I'll double check the population of US first -- though it will probably include

non-voting citizens?

I'll see what I can get --

PS: I did give them "feedback" and think they are investigating number of members of

USHR -- undeveloped info, previously. They will e-mail me!

312 million population in US now!!

38. Yeah, that's why I feel it's so responsibly growing as a site...
The fact that the mission of the search engine seems to be problem solving, and they have a mission to probe those using problem solving is great.

I have to look up USHR, meanwhile. Have you tried querying it with various terms, or simplified the root information in your query?

57. Wolfram|Alpha launched May 18, 2009, but had been in open beta for longer.
I first used it over three years ago.

If you ask "Wolfram|Alpha Timeline", it returns a line graph starting in 2000, with a launch date in 2009.

It does seem more powerful now, as opposed to when I last played with it.

"What do sperm do when ingested" The web site knows nothing of this.

"Glasgow, Scotland" (the web site changes Scotland to "United Kingdom" and offers INCORRECT "facts"

I can't remember the third one, but that's a pretty damn poor average.
