Democrats playing nice for now

HANOVER, N.H. --Democrats running for president this year probably won't play nice with one another much longer, but they are staying together on issues important to voters, national party Chairman Howard Dean told a Dartmouth College audience Monday.

Dean said the Democratic candidates are united in calling for a change in course in Iraq, health care reform and action to halt the humanitarian crisis in Darfur.

"I do think -- while there are some differences of opinion and while we have a long way to go and it'll get rougher before it gets easier -- the Democrats are presenting a relatively unified front on the key issues Americans care about," he said."

He mentions the primaries briefly. I am furious with the GOP in Florida moving the primary up. I read that the DNC is working with the state party in Florida to perhaps set up a caucus on February 12 to bypass the primary and let the RNC have it. Sounds like he's trying.

8. Here's a comment I missed.
Sort of made me chuckle, but then I realized what a heck of a job that DNC has with the states fighting to be first.

Dean said there’s no need for New Hampshire to hopscotch.

“New Hampshire has done nothing wrong – yet,” Dean said. “Judging from the number of presidential candidates you’ve had here and how often they’ve come, I don’t think New Hampshire is in any danger of losing its influence.”

And I found a little more about the DNC working with Florida.

DNC spokeswoman Stacie Paxton said in a statement that the committee is hoping to work with the state to reach a solution. “This is not the first time that a state legislature has set its primary on a date outside DNC party rules,” Paxton said. “As with similar situations in the past, the DNC is working closely with the state party to look at the alternatives for proceeding in accordance with the rules on or after February 5th.”

Alternatives might include holding a party-run event such as a caucus, making the primary a non-binding event.

"DNC Chairman Howard Dean attends leadership summit in Maryland—

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -

Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean was in Annapolis today, meeting with representatives from the Democratic Party from around the country.

David Paulson, a spokesman for the Maryland Democratic Party says party representatives from every state and six U-S territories are meeting to discuss fund-raising, federal election law and political strategy during the three-day party summit.

Dean spoke at Calvert House near Maryland's State House this evening. He declined to comment about the meeting to a reporter as he walked to a reception at the governor's mansion nearby.

The events were closed to the media."

Dean to speak to state Democrats

OKLAHOMA CITY "Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean will give the keynote address at the state Democratic Party convention on May 19th in Oklahoma City.

State party Chairwoman Lisa Pryor says Dean's presence confirms the national Democratic Party is committed to electing Democrats and promoting Democratic ideals in Oklahoma.

Democrats will hold their convention May 18th through 20th at the Bricktown Coca-Cola Center. They will be electing new officers, including a replacement for Pryor, who is not running for re-election."
