Mr. President, Defend America
The only thing more blatant than the fraud and corruption that is killing our country is our current leaders' unwillingness to stop it.

Now, as we are faced with the unspeakable damage from both the Gulf oil spill and the financial crisis, our leaders still insist that the best people to deal with the aftermath are the very people who caused it in the first place.

I think the list is "anyone who has ever criticized Obama and/or anyone who works for him in any capacity", but I'll admit my copy of the directions for displaying undying loyalty expired after he hired Larry Summers.

So you dont like most of Congress, nor much of the administration?

By the way, the reason Ratigan is no longer on CNBC was because of his negative comments about the Bush administration, but go ahead and think what you like.

I personally like to have someone point out the shortcomings of our government irrespective of party.

Theres no way to achieve real change without it.

10. "decided to let the spouses of murder victims be in charge of the crime scene. "
What a fucking idiot.

As bad as government can be (and, as we know in New York, it can be very bad), our leaders are trying to tell us that corporations have your interests at heart as much as government does. But corporations do not work for the general public, nor are they set up that way -- they work for money.

As grim as all this may sound, let's not forget that corrupt politicians, bankers and yes, even media figures are nothing new. However, a vast, unstoppable flow of the truth brought on by amazing advances in technology, and a country that still counts each person's vote equally, allows its citizens the right to speak freely and decide how and where to spend its non-taxed money -- is a stiff antidote to this age-old problem.

I believe we are already well on our way to righting this ship. Recent primaries point to a deep rumbling in the sleeping giant for a shared value that offends us all deeply regardless of political affiliation -- the basic issue of fairness and its obvious betrayal by our previous and current Government.

Government is bad?

Typical RW bullshit.

Edited on Wed May-26-10 03:07 PM by havocmom
This either or straw crap is just a modified version of: 'yer either with us or with the terrarists'

It was false then as the 'with Obama's corporate-criminal enabling behavior or you're for the GOP' is now.

A bullshit tactic then and now.

23. Obama's behavior hasn't "enabled" shit that wasn't more than already enabled for the past 30 years.
Perhaps if the American people still didn't favor Off shore oil drilling
by a big majority you'd have a point in concentrating on blaming one man
for whatever.

Bullshit is the difference between holding an administration's feet to the fire,
and burning the whole fucking house down, day after day to make whatever point
without ever considering the unintended (or intended) consequences of one's action,
while consistently talking about the ramification of the actions of others.

If you think that Americans who would read what is posted here on a daily basis
about this administration would then turn around and vote for any democrat,
you are fooling yourself.

So no, it's not a "false dichotomy", cause there will only be so many parties
to choose from on the ballots this fall.

Like I said, the Teaparty folks don't like or trust government either....
and it appears that many on this site don't either.
That's a common thread.

17. wow! all 5 are here!
but beyond that fact, the president wouldn't have this problem if he at least APPEARED to be on top of the situation. It seems to me, that the way it comes across to the nation is that this is a 'regional' problem, and since the pres. is leaving BP in control of the operation, it's not that big of a deal, but, now that it's becoming obvious to the common-folk that it's bigger than what they were under the impression it was, Obama is made to look like a nitwit because he hasn't APPEARED on top of this, walking on the beach at different sites being shown the oil, addressing the nation in a prime-time speech about what has happened and what we will be doing if it's not resolved by BP shortly, etc...

People want to see that he's not letting the coasts be decimated by a foreign oil company - and those who blame the people for that are really not getting the picture - and don't want to...

25. Define 'America'
One could argue that if corporations are America Obama (Eric Holder/AG and Ken Salazar/IntSec) is defending America by having corporate friendly apointees.

For those in America who define it by its natural resources such as those being destroyed in the Gulf right now, Obama is not defending America he is facilitating its destruction.

Is he supposed to fly over it and use his ray gun eyes to fix the damage?

I do agree that reporters and fringe science folks may not have access but I am sure that government engineers do. Does anyone here actually believe that if there was something that could be done about this, it wouldn't be done?

Comparing the oil spill to the financial crisis is ridiculous.

as are many people on scene in the Gulf.

http://journals.democraticunderground.com/dgibby

There are many, many other posts here with great suggestions, but it would appear that most of the people asking the question you just asked are not interested in having a real discussion. Their real agenda, imo, is to belittle the people who are being critical of the way this disaster is being handled.

I am not including you in this group, btw. I'm just stating my own opinion, based on my own observations.

41. Excellent post...
The way to get through to these Oil companies is to hit them in the wallet. I don't expect the Dems to get out there and clean it up themselves but as it stands it looks like they are prepared to let BP get away with as much as they possibly can. From my seat it looks like Corporate, Political, and Financial considerations are coming before the Environment and the people.

36. How about this scenario?
President Obama to BP, "You fucked up big time, now get out and leave your checkbook. We'll call you if there's anything else we need from you". Then he (FEMA) hires the same experts that BP hired and get unfiltered information and technology available, without the ever-present eye to the bottom line and as little industry spin as possible, to address this. If nothing else this would have saved a month of wasted time and effort. Hell, maybe the booming would have been done correctly.

From what I read early on, it was obvious to all the non-industry experts that these capping/plugging schemes were impossible and were not going to work, it is too deep. Is the new drilling platform on it's way yet?
