BP Runs Full-Page Ads In Major Newspapers Defending Its Oil Spill Response: ‘We Have Taken Full Responsibility’

Since the disastrous Gulf Coast oil spill, BP and the other companies responsible for the tragedy have been beefing up their lobbying and public relations efforts. Today, the oil giant has full-page ads in the Washington Post, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today defending its response to the oil spill. From the ad:

*****Since the tragic accident on the Transcocean Deepwater Horizon rig first occurred, we have been committed to doing everything possible to stop the flow of oil at the seabed, collect the oil on the surface and keep it away from the shore.

***** BP has taken full responsibility for dealing with the spill. We are determined to do everything we can to minimize any impact. We will honor all legitimate claims.

6. I've seen posts that read like that BP ad...
with only slight twists to make it seem like a defense of Obama.

8. Yep, by self proclaimed "authorities" on the matter
one wonders if they are on staff or part of the "pay-per-post" brigade.

3. and how many millions are being spent on astroturfing political sites?
Their response was immediate: they immediately dispatched lawyers to buy off potential litigants. They immediately spent billions in bribes to states affected to "boost tourism".

their immediate response to the spill itself? not so much.

9. Just like the profitable toxic dispersants, it's all about covering up the evidence
and good PR. And it's worked on some DUers; they fully believe that there are no other ways of dealing with the spill, that "no one could have predicted such a disaster" and that corporations are always better suited to cleaning up their own crime scenes that the helpless US government is. Unfreakingbelievable!

5. Why can't some left org like Greenpeace or WWF or Moveon.org run counter full-page ads...
calling for a boycott of BP gas stations.

10. Their exec branch is comprised of idiots...
Spending the money and making a sincere and giant cleanup effort is worth more in PR currency than ads could ever be.

Instead we get a half-assed job and their CEO has an undisguised contempt for the people and environment his company has harmed.
