What crazy things do you hear from your conservative friends?
Here's some of what I've heard in the last few months:

"They found out that the oil washing up on the shores of Florida is from an earlier spill!!!" (This, shouted at God only knows how many decibels)

"The oil spill isn't BP's fault, it was an accident." When I pointed out that they should have had a contingency plan, his response: "Do you have a contingency plan if your car doesn't start? How is it your fault?"

"I watch Fox News because it's the most unbiased." When I mentioned the oil spill & regulations, she appeared to not know what "regulation" meant. (BTW - this from a DOCTOR)!

"The whole banking crisis is a result of irresponsible home buyers whose eyes were bigger than their wallets"

(After seeing "Capitalism: A Love Story") "All this that happened is the PEOPLE'S fault, because they didn't do anything about it when it was happening."

"Sarah Palin is intelligent"

Concerning unfair labor practices: "Well, they're free to go work somewhere else" and "You can't force philanthropy"

When I mentioned that, as a liberal, my biggest issue is mega-corporate power & unchecked corruption: "Oh yeah? What about Ben & Jerry's? They're a great company!"

It's extremely difficult to refrain from ripping my hair out, or giving them a good slap.

4. To be honest, we don't often stay friends
I have a low BS tolerance and while I think that they sincerely beleive what they are saying, that does not change that it is BS. Generally, when I talk politics with conservative friends, we do not stay friends long. Seriously, if I value the friendship for other reasons, I just say "Let's not talk politics or religion". But I can understand if you are in a red state, you may not be able to be so pikcy about who your friends are - and some diversity of views can be healthy.

5. The craziest thing I have heard...
Was from a surprisingly intelligent lump of a kid who pumps gas at the local "budget"(HAH!) gas station.

Now, here in NJ, we have the Highlands act, a bi-partisan bill designed to keep development out our delicate watershed areas. Of course, farmers and large land owners hate it, as do developers. Soooo...they have lost their little minds. They have half-baked the explanation that high gas prices are a result of The Highlands Act. No explanation is forthcoming as to WHY this happens, it is simply canon.

The kid, I will say, was as gobsmacked as I was at the complete lack of logic and reason in this "argument".

He might have been, on the exterior, a lump, but the kid has real smarts and I told him so.

Surprising where you find smarts these days.

Obama is a socialist!
What are they talking about? I cannot find anything he has done that is socialist.

Health care? Forcing Americans to buy something from a private corporation is fascism, not socialism.

It also drives me crazy that they keep saying Obama is oh so far left? WTF! He hasn't done any of the things the 'left' worked to get him elected for.

The thing that is really pissing me off is the constant complaining about illegal immigrants, saying they get free health care, free food, free social security....what the fuck are they talking about? Most people who are illegal don't want to go anywhere near a government agency for fear they would be caught. Most people who are legal and need help, can't even get it. But somehow these illegals are getting social security cards and collecting from American tax dollars....sure....

I wish someone would slap them and explain to them....very....slowly.....your tax money is going to useless wars and warmongering and you are paying for the pentagon to create propaganda to convince you why it is all necessary.

8. They are completely irrational
It doesn't have to be logical, and no amount of hypocrisy ever gets in their way.

I think maybe what we are seeing is the affects of too many pesticides, flouride etc. Our brains are wired differently and the 'other side' just couldn't deal with the toxic buildup and it has blocked essential brain functioning.

After a (former) friend of mine said, "With the Obama health care reform if you have eye problems you will only be allowed to save one eye." That did it for me. I told her I just couldn't talk with her anymore as this was just beyond stupid. She called once after that and I said I wasn't home.

so conservatives are hard to find, though they aren't afraid of saying dumb things. One client of mine, who I am friendly with, blamed the failure of schools on former governor Grey Davis, saying that they were better when Reagan was governor. Being a client, I could not point out the obvious to him.

It is all so simple, you see! :sarcasm:

38. "The spill is the government's fault" (son's classmate)
During free time in science class, some kids started talking about the oil spill. One of the students, who is well-known to be against Obama for anything and everything, blamed the spill -- somehow -- on the government. My son and some of his friends immediately engaged in a debate on this issue. I was extremely happy to know that these kids are all staying informed, and are willing to challenge such ridiculous ideas.
