American workers starting to feel confident enough in job market to say "I quit"

As the job market begins to loosen up, human-resource managers might increasingly be surprised by an announcement from employees they haven't heard in a while: "I quit."

In February, the number of employees voluntarily quitting surpassed the number being fired or discharged for the first time since October 2008, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Before February, the BLS had recorded more layoffs than resignations for 15 straight months, the first such streak since the bureau started tracking the data a decade ago. Since the BLS began tracking the data, the average number of people voluntarily leaving their jobs per month has been about 2.7 million. But since October 2008, the average number dropped to as low as 1.72 million. In March, it was about 1.87 million.

1. Sounds like a Corp Gov Press Release....unemployment is only 10%
No one quits a job in this market.. even part-time, minimum wage no benefits.

4. If people are quitting, where the hell are these jobs?
The fact is, they aren't in any great numbers.

Once again we get "feel good" news in order to make it a self-fulfilling prophecy.

2. Yeah, all (most) of the ones who said, "I quit" are giving their 'two-week' notice

before they move on to a better paying/more upwardly-mobile jobs.

THAT'S a good sign.

I read the OP as saying that the ppl saying 'I quit' don't need a job - and/or are financially "self-sufficient" for the rest of their lives. That just IS NOT the case.

 for a misleading OP

Hey, but I've been proven wrong/mis-read/been mis-understood before.....

5. Maybe they're quitting because they can no longer do the work of their
laid off collegues as well as their own job.

Maybe their job is making them work to many hours and their health is suffering.

Maybe the cost of their "benefit" insurance has risen so much it doesn't make sense to work any more.
