La. AG: State will protect wetlands regardless

LA Attorney General Buddy Caldwell is setting up a major court confrontation with the Feds, and he is not playing. Caldwell is very conservative by DU standards, but he is the highest ranking Democratic elected official in Louisiana. He's not a Republican, he's not a Teabagger, and he's not doing this to embarrass Obama. He's doing it because there is no other choice if we want to save this state.

There is no doubt other AG's in other states are taking notes, and it will probably be tried again for reasons that will not be popular here--like opening up public lands in the West to energy development. When that happens, remember that this administration is the one that opened the door wide for it.

The oil well has been out of control for a month. Now the political side of the equation is getting out of control. Obama can either act like a president, or be rendered irrelevant in the minds of the public for the remainder of his single term. In 2012 we can start all over again and try to find a Democrat who will stand up for the citizens of this country--if such a person exists.

1. This is Obama's first crisis on his watch.
And so far it's been a disaster on par with the spill.

Sad but true, Cattledog, and it pains me to say it.
