Wolfie did it.....
WASHINGTON, May 7 — A committee of World Bank directors has formally notified Paul D. Wolfowitz that they found him to be guilty of a conflict of interest in arranging for a pay raise and promotion for Shaha Ali Riza, his companion, in 2005. The findings stepped up the pressure on Mr. Wolfowitz to resign.

<snip>

It was not clear whether the committee, consisting of 7 of the bank’s 24 board members, would remove Mr. Wolfowitz from his post or, more likely, express a loss of confidence in his leadership in a manner that might persuade him to resign. Bank officials say that a majority of the bank board has concluded that he should go.

In another sign of Mr. Wolfowitz’s difficulties, his top communications aide, Kevin Kellems, resigned today, saying that “the current environment surrounding the leadership” at the bank made it “very difficult to be effective in helping to advance the mission of the institution.”

4. I guess this is a strange position. Prez of the US appointed him, so
I guess that's why the board doesn't have the right to fire him. I guess we'll see soon enough though.

5. He wants to stay until some point in June, when he gets a $400,000 "bonus"
Edited on Mon May-07-07 04:58 PM by Divernan
As per his employment contract - just like those obscene corporate CEOs who get mega-bonuses even after they've screwed up. I don't have a link for this info - I read it here last week.
On edit: I googled this and found many references that:

"Secondly, allegedly on June 1st, Wolfowitz becomes eligible for some large financial bonus -- for performance and time on the job. One estimate puts this figure at about $400,000. Wolfowitz wants to make sure those funds are credited to his private bank account before saying farewell to an institution that has come to despise him."

10. Anyone hear Thom Hartman today on AAR
Discussing this very subject. Had a guest on who explained how and why the World Bank got started, and how the world-corporations use the World Bank further their globalization goals. (Point being, world corporations will be owning/running the 3rd world countries thru loans...and the conservative social goals will be instilled in these countries.) Anyhoo, very interesting stuff.

16. If they don't have the guts, then give him a room in an adjacent building and an empty calendar
No windows, no desk and no phone. Cut his pay, cancel his bonuses, deny clearance for any appointments or material appropriations. Relieve him of all institutional responsibilities, exclude him from any and all meetings and issue requests for his resignation regularly until he gets the idea or they find the courage to it themselves.
