BP May Be Barred From U.S. Contracts Under Plan Weighed by EPA
May 21 (Bloomberg) -- The Obama administration may prohibit BP Plc from getting government contracts after it obtains more information about the company’s oil spill polluting the Gulf of Mexico.
The Environmental Protection Agency was already in talks with BP about its conduct, such as past convictions for violating the Clean Air Act, before the explosion on a BP-leased oil rig on April 20, the agency said today in a statement. After the spill that followed, the discussions were put on hold, the agency said.
BP would lose billions of dollars in revenue should the U.S. freeze the entire London-based company out of all government contracts. Such a move would prohibit BP from drilling for oil and gas in federally controlled areas.
“Potentially, BP could be prevented from having any contracts with the federal government at all, which is quite far-reaching,” John Pendergrass, a senior attorney with the Washington-based Environmental Law Institute, said in an interview.

1. the government should never do business with BP again
it might not even be possible anyway. I do believe that the POS BP will go bankrupt from the disaster they have created!

3. The downside to that (although I'd like to see it happen) is that they
have over 20,000 employees in the U.S. :(

4. well they can collect unemployment
after they are laid off because BP has gone broke. Don't worry, they'll be taking their stock with them that they probably cashed out on April 21, 2010 dare I suggest.

No sympathy for anyone related to BP. :nopity:

Sorry about that.

7. Yes, but there will be much more than 20,000
losing their jobs who depend upon the Gulf for fishing, tourism, etc.

2. I'd LOVE to see that happen! And why wouldn't we? Salazar just
said BP is not meeting their deadlines and he doesn't really trust them. Why should we continue to do business with thim after this tragedy?

6. I will fall over in shock and admiration if this happens... and BP
doesn't just change it's name and pick up with business as usual. I would like to see them liquidated and ALL their assets assigned to clean up and for relief for those who's jobs have been imploded.

11. You'll never get ALL of BP's assets
Same holds true for any multi-national.

Too many assets in other countries. You'd be lucky to get a tenth of their assets.
