BP to EPA: Drop Dead
BP says it's sticking with its toxic dispersant, despite orders from the EPA to find an alternative. BP is a criminal enterprise operating in US territorial waters and should be treated as such. Why is the United States government acting so cravenly? The world wonders. http://www.nola.com/news/gulf-oil-spill/index.ssf/2010/05/bp_is_sticking_with_its_disper.html

2. Could the RICO act be used against them??
No different than the Mafia in their regards for others. The kill, steal, terrorize, maybe just jail them as terrorists.............

6. no, never, why do you hate Obama?
:sarcasm:

It would seem to any reasonable outside observer that BP is being protected by the administration here, instead of the environment.

Now, the real question is why?

14. I heard that the Coast Guard has the final say, but then didn't I hear that
the EPA prohibited a particular dispersant BP was using and BP essentially told them to go fuck themselves?

I understand that there may be legal/constitutional issues, but I would think in a truly emergency situation like this they could be overridden or some emergency contingency implemented.

I've also heard that we don't have the equipment but again, why can't we put our people on their equipment and call the shots?

I think that Obama (or whomever was advising him) may have initially thought that BP would do the right thing, but come on! It's been over a month and they are still dinking around AND refusing to comply.

A caller to Randi Rhodes is convinced they are dragging their heels until that area is SO destroyed that the only thing it will be good for is oil drilling. I certainly wouldn't put it past them.

Things always look so simple from our vantage point -- if this happens, this is what I would do, period. But that's not the reality we're living in today. But even so, I'm at a loss as to why Obama hasn't said 'enough!' and gone full tilt on this. Maybe he has and we're just not seeing it, but I would think if that were the case, it would be evident.

I feel like sending him an e-mail saying 'while we're dragging our feet, Malia and Sasha's world is becoming more and more polluted, they may never experience the joys and beauty that we were able to.

That's what the CG person said when asked if BP and CG's relationship had gotten too cozy.

I really wasn't surprised I guess. I just didn't expect to hear it spoken out loud by a Coast Guard spokesperson.

Lots of blame and finger pointing with no one wanting to take any responsibility, even if it's just a small part of it.

Sickening. Seems any one who's any one is far too cozy with big oil.

9. Your post
popped up on my screen with an ad picturing a beach house at Myrtle Beach SC.

The ad copy said "I need a pristine beach and a beautiful view."
