Bush welcoming the Queen....
"You dined with ten US Presidents. You helped our nation celebrate its bicentennial in 1776, er, 1976."

1. No, tell me the idiot didn't really say that? I bet the queen just

6. Hardly. Her 'family tree' is heavily laden with imbeciles, sociopaths, and monsters.
Screw her. She squats on BILLIONS inherited from monarchical oppression and exploitation of the death, suffering, and labors of others. They never saw an autocrat they didn't enable ... including Hitler!

11. Indeed, and...
let's not forget a large portion of the royals wealth was made from selling opium in the past couple of centuries.

10. Queen: "I warn you dear child, if I lose my temper, you lose your head. Understand?"
Edited on Mon May-07-07 01:14 PM by shain from kane

Queen: "Never mind all that! Get to the part where I lose my temper."

what he would do to embarrass the country......again. Seems he can't even complete a sentence w/o f*cking up. All that money - prep schools - east coast education - didn't anyone ever teach this walking disaster any manners? He is bereft of any social skills.

5. Honestly, I really don't care what the queen of England thinks.
The idea that the common shit-eaters can't touch her majesty, with their dirty hands, makes my skin crawl.

Bush and the Queen of England: Two blue-blooded freaks, that lived pampered, sheltered lives, and now control two powerful nations.

9. I completely agree.
It's appalling to me to see the adulation of 'royals' in a community that fashions itself as 'democratic.'

12. The queen is a mere figurehead. She does not 'control'
the UK. The British parliment and the PM have exclusive power.

13. Whatever. My point remains.
No need to split hairs, she's still the Queen of England.

14. No hairs to split.. The only power the queen
enjoys is the power of celebrity. She is not a decision maker, has no parlimentary vote, not even the rank of commander-in-chief. It is very rare that even her views on issues are allowed to be aired.

15. she didn't grab power in a bloodless coup or anything
I can't blame her for being born into a royal family. If I'd been offered the opportunity I'd have wanted the same thing (if I'd gotten the same parents, just with HM in front of their names).

I like her. (I don't like most of the other members of her family. With a few exceptions they seem to be a bunch of whiners.)

If the majority of the British people like having her as their queen, I say yay for her. She's done an excellent job and has a great work ethic. Sure, she's not working in a coal mine, but "Queen" is the job she was assigned, and she does it extremely well.

I think she's even said that if the British public decided they didn't want a monarchy any more, "We'll go quietly"--so she has a sense of humor too.

I bet that she would be only too thrilled to cut down on the pomp and circumstance of her public life... it's probably done as much out of a sense of history, and of course to please the populace and the tourists, as anything else. If she just strolled to the opening of Parliament in a pair of sweatpants, England would lose even more of its sense of its past than it already has.
