New York Street Vendors to Start Accepting Credit Cards

A trial plan set to launch in June will outfit some city food carts and other street vendors with credit-card payment machines.

The program is the brainchild of the Street Vendor Project, which is part of the Urban Justice Center.

The trial run will be on a few carts in Manhattan, Brooklyn and The Bronx, myFOXny.com reported yesterday. If the response is positive, the program could be rolled out across the city in three to four months.

A spokesman for the group said it wants to make sure food carts remain an option for people looking for a quick bite to eat.
