Conventions:

Arizona Hotel and Lodging Association:
Phoenix Business Journal - by Lynn Ducey Officials of the Arizona Hotel and Lodging Association today said they know of 19 groups that have canceled meetings in Arizona as a direct result of the state's new law targeting illegal immigrants.

And while the statewide hospitality group says that hotels are also receiving cancellations from leisure travelers, they weren't able to quantify or track those cancellations.

While the association said that the groups represent more than 15,000 room nights and have an economic impact of more than $6 million to Arizona's economy, details surrounding the cancellations were not immediately available.

Scottsdale Convention and Visitors Bureau:
According to the Scottsdale Convention and Visitors Bureau, since the immigration law was passed, the valley has lost six different conventions. Each convention was going to fill anywhere from 20 rooms to 400.”

The American Immigration Lawyers Association vowed to boycott Arizona and cancelled their upcoming convention in Scottsdale, AZ. Tuscon lawyer and former AILA chair Mo Goldman said,

"Right after the bill was signed, our board of governors had an emergency meeting and voted on whether or not we would keep the conference in Scottsdale."

There are several other notations at the site and all are bad news for the State!

1. Los Angeles voted to boycott.
My town, a suburb of LA proper, didn't have any current business with Arizona, but they put out a declaration against the Arizona law and barred any future city business.

3. My town is pretty reliably on the side of the people, so I think they're a bit above a sham.

And in reviewing the LA attachment, what would you have done differently, considering the legal ramifications of breaking current contracts, etc.?
