4 million gallons of oil a day into the gulf. If this doesnt eventually provoke a revolt against our
corporate overlords I dont know what will...

unreal...

ASHINGTON — The latest video footage of the leaking Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico show that oil is escaping at the rate of 95,000 barrels — 4 million gallons — a day, nearly 20 times greater than the 5,000 barrel a day estimate BP and government scientists have been citing for nearly three weeks, an engineering professor told a congressional hearing Wednesday.

1. Have you stopped using oil products, anything made with oil, or used any energy for oil?

5. Are you implying that the risk of disasters like this one is acceptable?
And that believing a company should know how contain oil as deep as it attempts to drill for it, but continuing to make use of petroleum products, somehow makes one a hypocrite?

7. Oh come on
So this other poster stops using anything plastic and rides his bike to work (if he can find one with no oil byproducts in it, of course), that's gonna make a difference?

You're gonna blame some random person on the internet for driving a car (assuming s/he does) as if making some personal lifestyle choice not to drive is some big revolt against the big oil companies? That is, if the dude is lucky enough to have a choice, to live near enough work and be young and in good enough health to ride a bike, or if there's even a bus or train system anywhere near him..

Thing is, avoiding all oil-related products or forms of energy is damn near impossible for 99% of the people in this country, and even if 10% could do it it wouldn't even put a dent in things.

The reactionary 'blame the consumer' crap is so counterproductive.

Don't get me wrong - if people can and want to prioritize 'living green' then more power to them. But it ain't a political statement.

The US military the biggest oil user in the world. Eliminating that might make a dent.
