Raise the war dead? Give everybody a million bucks of that war profit?

For me, it would involve him taking a trip to Mars, one way.

6. I don't buy that
If there was some sort of provocation, maybe, but barring that, i don't think there is much of a hunger to invade Iran.

This is about the clandestine action the U.S. is involved in Iran along with the Saudis, who are funding it and other ME coalition nations! Read the Rawstory link and the one there by Seymour Hersh.

30. OK that's kind of a non-sequitar
Although I appreciate you bringing that Atlantic story to my attention, it has nothing to do with what we are talking about, which is would President Bush's numbers go through the roof if we invaded Iran. If anything it supports my position, since we seem to already be fucking with Iran and it doesn't seem to be helping Bush's numbers.

Maybe you were shooting holes in the idea that the American people might enthusiastically support an open military campaign against Iran if they provoked us? I stand by what I said, while noting that my brevity did not permit explaining that Iran certainly has reasons to be upset with the united states.

33. I wish you had made your point clearer.
But you said: i don't think there is much of a hunger to invade Iran.

I was merely pointing out that the administration may in fact have a "hunger". After listening to the war hawks in the repuke debate, Iran was one topic they seemed to agree upon. Your theory that if we're already f.... Iran it doesn't seem to be helping Bush's numbers....but how many know this?

34. I disagree.
It worked with Iraq because people had just gone through the rally-round-the-flag stage. It might backfire like ignoring Katrina did. That doesn't mean I don't think he'll try it.

26. No, not attack Iran. Only a nuclear sized strike on this country would do it.
Edited on Mon May-07-07 11:50 AM by Exiled in America
His approval rating was in the 90s because of the attacks against us. Not attacking Iraq. He SPENT political capital in attacking Iraq, and it was able to do it with much public support only because most people were afraid and believed that there was a link between Iraq and Al Queda and between Hussein and 9/11.

In order for Bush's approval rating to shoot up, America would need to be hit with a nuclear weapon. It's the only thing big enough to make people scared enough to rally behind this fool. Even another 9/11 sized attack would only make the people more angry at bush and his administration for failed policies that didn't keep us safe. But a nuclear strike would shock and terrify the country beyond all reason. They wouldn't think rationally enough to disapprove of Bush. They would just blindly do whatever they were told, which would include the following:

- Supporting new wars abroad
- Supporting severe removal of basic rights
- Possibly supporting martial law and the suspension of the constitution
- and more

And make no mistake, we will be hit with a nuclear attack. It's almost inevitable. It's just a matter of time. When we are, pray a democrat is in the white house, not an insane power hungry neo-conservative who would exploit the opportunity to turn America into a corporatocracy / fascist state.
