Last night my daughter graduated from high school.
But first, this thread:
DU thread from 2006

My daughter started playing violin in the fourth grade and was playing solos and duets in public by the sixth grade. I was very proud of her when she stood before students, teachers, administrators, and parents, and performed a minuet by JS Bach arranged for violin and piano (I played piano), at her school’s annual talent show.

She did fairly well throughout middle school but she began to lose interest during her first year in high school. My wife and I had arranged lessons with a violinist in the KC symphony and she had one lesson before informing us she wanted to quit.

During this time, we had the crisis of the orchestra trip described in the thread above. When I posted to that thread, two DUers sent me messages offering to send donations to help offset the expenses for our daughter’s trip. Both my wife and I were pleasantly surprised and if it hadn’t been for the reluctance on the part of our daughter to continue with orchestra, we might have taken them up on it. I’m sure we could have covered the costs (barely) with the help of family and friends, but the donations from two DUers would have been most welcomed.

As it turned out, five or so students didn’t take the trip and we assumed it was due to finances.

Our daughter did excel in the arts and received an “honorable mention” for her work in ceramics. She intends to go to a local community college for a year or two and hopes to transfer to an arts college in the Pacific Northwest.

But we will never forget the generosity of DUers.

Heartfelt thanks to :) and :). As it was once said, it takes a village.

________
I didn’t feel it appropriate to use names, but rather to acknowledge the empathy and generosity of DU...

1. Dems may not walk lock step on ideas and philosophies
but we will always come to the aid of another Dem in need if possible and that is truly following the words of the man Jesus.... "fruit of the spirit/loving your brother." Republicans "think" they are Christians, Democrat Christians "know it."

5. Thanks for the suggestion!
:hi:

I'll pass it on to her, but now she still has dreams of being "an artist." She's going to a juco for a couple of years and so she may change her mind during that time.

Age makes pragmatists of us all...

4. Thanks!
We had some rough years, but she's grown up quite a bit during the past couple...(we both have, and I told her so after the ceremony!) :hi:
