Schumer: Probe rising gas prices
To be a motorist in New York these days, means spending a pretty penny on gasoline. Make that more than 300 pretty pennies.

The recent hike in gas prices has prompted Sen. Charles Schumer -- who has received plenty of calls from those motorists -- to call for a federal investigation into the oil refineries that make the gas.

He said he thinks the hefty prices could have resulted from oil companies being lax on maintenance, thus short on capacity.

"The looming question is, are they putting money into maintenance and keeping up refineries as they should?" Schumer asked. "Or are they happier with lower production and higher prices?"

(snip)
Schumer said the Government Accountability Office will investigate, and he hopes to have the results in "a couple of months."

1. "Or are they happy..."
Gimme a break, Chuck. They're ticked pink and laughing all the way to their Cayman banks.

5. We all know what the result will be.
At some point, Congress will earmark money for some company to build a whole new refinery. On our tax dollar. And due to the fast-track legislation for creating jobs in low-income areas, you'll get a refinery in a poor neighborhood.

Anybody know where we can get ongoing, updated demand lists? They say that demand is out of sight. I want to know what the real demand is.

7. Would that be the time when...
the CEOs of big-oil were allowed to testify before Congress, but not under oath, because that's only for criminals?

Ugh.

8. If the Dem leadership knows what's good, they better put the fools under oath in front of Congress
None of this bullshit about testifying while not under oath like the Repubs kept pulling.

9. Considering how much WE are getting squeezed - perhaps it's TIME
To take away those leased cars and gas allowances from our representatives? Let THEM start using their OWN cars, pumping their OWN gas?

Really -- WHY do we need to provide cars and free gas to people who earn over $150K per YEAR?

That is the ONLY way we'll get them to start shrieking about the gas prices. As long as they have paid-for transportation, they won't give a rat's ass until someone throws a brick through their window. :grr:
