Family: 7-year-old shot by police was asleep

US News DETROIT (AP) — State police will take over the investigation of the fatal shooting of a 7-year-old girl by a Detroit police officer during a weekend raid at the girl's home, a prosecutor said Monday.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said bringing in the state police to investigate the killing of Aiyana Jones would avoid any appearance of a conflict of interest.

"I agree that it is most appropriate that this be done independently," Worthy said.

Aiyana was asleep on the living room sofa in her family's apartment when Detroit police, searching for a homicide suspect, burst in and an officer's gun went off, fatally striking the girl in the neck, family members said.

Her father, 25-year-old Charles Jones, told The Detroit News he had just gone to bed early Sunday after covering his daughter with her favorite blanket when he heard a flash grenade followed by a gunshot. When he rushed into the living room, he said, police forced him to lie on the ground, with his face in his daughter's blood.

2. When you militarize the police
you get military style collateral damage.

What ever happened to simply arresting bad guys?

3. Conservatives trust government when they kill, but not when they try to help...
Conservatives always trust the government to start wars, trust government to bomb people, trust government to spy on people, trust government to incarcerate people without charges, trust government to torture people, trust government to arrest people without warrants, trust government to execute people, trust government to use secret wiretaps on people and trust government cops even when they kill little sleeping girls.

Why do conservatives trust the government when they are killing people, but not trust government to help people? And who comes to their rescue when a calamity occurs? Corporations don't. The government does, and I've never seen one conservative refuse help from the government.

Conservatives are a perfect combination of profound ignorance and an evil stupidity.
