Stopping the oil well spill
Edited on Sat May-15-10 10:35 AM by AngryAmish
Anyone have any ideas how to do this?

This is my idea: Ever see an angioplasty? It consists of putting a wire with a deflated balloon into a vein or artery then blowing up the balloon to make room in the blood vessel. My idea would be similar. Put a long stent (30 yards or more) into the well and then inflate the balloon with petroleum jelly or concrete or whatever.

Keep in mind I'm not an engineer or anything like that. I have no idea if the robots could do this. Any idea what is the psi of the flow out?

1. You know, that actually sounds feasible (though I'm only an armchair expert)
It would seem to me that even a partial blockage of the flow would be helpful if it could lead to a more complete capping thereafter.

Maybe we could feed it a ton of Big Macs and those breadless chicken sandwiches from KFC? Those lead to blockage in pretty short order.

K/R for an interesting idea!

2. Good suggestion but
if you block the spill down in the pipe how will BP recover the oil at a later date?

3. Sounds promising.
The challenge, of course, would be to keep the tens of thousands of pounds per square inch of pressure from blowing the stint out before it was fully inflated with concrete (or whatever).

5. The one problem is that oil and gas are coming out of the pipe @
100,000 psi w/ 36' pipe.

but it is a very good thought.

6. It's like trying to cap a volcano.
It's not a spill, it's an eruption.

I think you could insert one directly in the pipe, fill it with water (or cement) to inflate.

Plugs Sizes: 2" to 96"

8. If it was housed in something that could withstand the pressure with capability to deploy once it
was inside, it might work.

10. They should use CEOs

and the government officials that they colluded with.

Why waste good garbage when you can use the most worthless shit on earth?
