16. I drove by one of our BP stations yesterday and it was packed.
Probably 20 pumps and they were nearly all being used.

Is this based on a poll?

Everyone I talk to in the real world is beyond pissed at BP.

Edit: BP = Beyond Pissed. :)

9. BP who? Don't you realize that it's almost the end of the SURVIVOR season?
And, of course, everyone is holding their breath to see who Paris Hilton's new British Best Friend will be.

Who has time for little things like oil spills in some far away place I've never been to?

11. If we were angry at BP
It would be the same sort of anger a heroine addict would have for his pusher.

Ironically, I work in the oil industry, and my anger at BP is beyond measure. BP's record of killing contractors and damaging the environment has no defense. It isn't bad luck, it's indifferance and arrogance and greed. Worse, it appears to be sanctioned by the government whose obligation it is to protect human health and the environment.

In my opinion, the lack of outrage over the BP spill has the same root cause as the lack of outrage over the illegal and immoral wars we're waging in the Middle East and preparing to wage in South America--Americans are oil whores.

12. I think people are exhausted right now.
Overwhelmed with trying to hold things together and there has been a steady diet of outrage and poutrage fed to public for too long. Right now the bulk of the outrage is focused on Congres, I believe.

14. aware that we are powerless to stop it
aware that we were just yelling 'drill baby drill', aware that the accident was not maliciously intended, aware that all who use petroleum products have no leg to stand on in judging, aware that all oil companies are about equal in their drilling policies and level of evil, aware that BP is not solely responsible, aware that transocean and halliburton are more directly at fault.

unaware that other countries have preventive measures beyond those required in USA #1, unaware of bush/cheney policies that enabled lax safety standards.

personally, i have no BP's to boycott here in Seattle.

26. From what I gather from Faux Noise the oil gusher was the fault
of environmentalists and especially Al Gore. They have to drill in mile deep water because they can't drill closer in to the shoreline. Can't drill in Alaska either so we have to drill in the gulf.
It's easy to be a Republican their followers believe any story they come up with.

government (Cheney, now Salazar) who undid the regulations and still approves more drilling permits, and the lack of immediate response by all of the above.

34. Who would fan the outrage--the media? Obama?
Everyone's in spin mode, and BP owns all the players. They own Obama, they own the media, they own everyone who would punish them or hold them accountable in any way.

Even Obama pointed the finger at the federal government over BP. Who's on our side here? I think sites like this have all the outrage you're ever going to see about this major, catastrophic event.

36. One could just as easily ask why we're not pissed off at ourselves.
We're the ones who want endless barrels of oil. We're the ones who allowed BP to drill offshore. We're the ones who allowed other technologies to languish while buying SUVs with our refinance money. Don't WE, as consumers who demand this product, deserve some of the blame?

37. True Example
My Ex (a rightie) came over this morning and said he had watched some of the hearings and could not get over... get this...
how Barbara Boxer was asking one of them to give a percentage of (something, I did not catch what, but am aware that the exec should have all his facts straight), and the exec said he did not know - then she asked, was it 10% or 20% or 50% - he still said he didn't know - Well, Ex said, "He already he said he didn't know, why did she keep asking him!" DUH! Guess he thought that the exec would be forthcoming with all information. yeah right! Of course, he believes they are going to pay all and pay upfront, etc... I just quietly reminded him of the Exxon Valdez - didn't say much about that, of course.

38. I Don't Know
about the rest of the nation, but on my list of outrages, this isn't even top ten. I know it's horrible, but I've got outrage fatigue. I walk around outraged, I just don't have the capacity for more. I wake up outraged, I leave work outraged, I go to bed outraged. And I don't even watch TV news. Oil spill, get in line. Sorry.
