Christianity Today: Rekers getting counseling from THREE Christian counselors for his "weaknesses"
Edited on Wed May-12-10 05:27 PM by Bluebear
"I confessed to the Lord and to my family that I was unwise and wrong to hire this travel assistant after knowing him only one month before the trip and not knowing whether he was more than a person raised in a Christian home," Rekers said. "I also confessed to the Lord and to my family the sin of thereby putting myself into a vulnerable situation where I tragically became subject to false allegations."

Rekers said that he regrets "unanticipated harm" for his "unwise decision," and briefly mentioned part of the trip. "One thing for which I am grateful is that my travel assistant openly shared his spiritual doubts with me during the trip and he did let me share the gospel of Jesus Christ with him with many Scriptures in three extended conversations."

Rekers said he is being advised by a team of three Christian counselors. "And I have committed myself to ongoing meetings with an experienced pastor and counselor from my church, so I can more fully understand my weaknesses and prevent this kind of unwise decision-making in the future."

13. Hey, maybe Rekers and Ted Haggard could hook up.
Edited on Wed May-12-10 05:33 PM by AndyA
They seem to understand what each other is going through. :eyes:

They could hook up with Larry Craig and he could show them his "wide stance." :eyes:

What a bunch of hypocrites. And they are harming themselves as much as anyone else. Deal with it, guys. You're gay. It's no big deal except for the likes of the three of you, condemning others for something that is natural.

Deal. With. It. Do not harm others because you can't deal with your own issues.

22. AndyA, what in the world can we do to get through to these people - honestly!!!

If we could expose several known religious/GOP leaders at once (say 3 or 4 of them) for the liars and self-haters they are, perhaps the sheer magnitude of pointing out that people that fight against Gay rights are obviously Gay themselves but in denial, would make lots of folks realize that the ones shouting about Gays, usually are closet-cases, and make it less attractive to be someone against Gay rights so openly. And that would make a big difference, I think.

26. I think it will take multiple BIG OUTINGS to get through to people.
And instead of going in for "treatment" or "counseling" or whatever, they just need to be big enough to say "Yeah, I'm gay. I've always been gay, and there's nothing wrong with it. I didn't choose to be this way, it just happened. Just like eye color, gender, height, etc., it just happens. It just is."

I think people are against it because in many cases deep down inside they have the same feelings, and they are afraid to deal with them. So, they lie to themselves and everyone else. And ultimately hurt everyone because of it. They aren't happy, so they drink, use drugs, have affairs, sneak around whenever they can, and then condemn those acts in public. I guess they think they're "making up" for their "wrong doings."

We need a photo of Dick Cheney, Pat Robertson, Bill O'Reilly, and Rush Limbaugh having a four way. That ought to do it.

(The thought of it makes me sick, though. Yuck.)

27. ugh.. what a 4 way pigfest. yeah, they need a biggie outed and proud about doing it. what is
interesting, is that a couple of prominent Gospel/Christian singers have come out in the past 2 years, Jennifer Knapp recently, but she disappeared for like 8 years, so she's not well known like she was in 2000, but really well known 80's-90's former Gaither singer, Ray Boltz, came out proudly. Of course, all the fundies said how horribly sad they were for Ray that he fell into sin and "chose to be a homosexual", but that was pretty big. We need more like that, because since he did that, I've seen more people say on web comments that we shouldn't judge, and God judges the soul, etc...

Well, I want civil rights for all, and I hope we can truthfully get them fully legislated before Obama's term/s are up. I want to see the FL adoption ban of Gays ruled unconstitutional too. They've been trying to fight that for so long.

14. yeah yeah yeah, the closet-case that I rubbed down a dozen times said he "made a mistake" too, about
getting so close to me. What is WRONG with these people? I'm a Christian, but people like this Rekers, and the guy I used to massage who I adored seem to blame themselves as being sinful for wanting to be with guys physically, so they lead a life of pure LIES, which is the only sin when compared to being who God made you. And regardless if you're a 'believer' or choose not to believe in anything of the sort, the slightest understanding of attraction tells you that you don't control it.

It really is tragic for everyone involved. I just wish they would realize how wrong they are, come forward, and finally do the right thing.

39. So far back in the closet...
...that they are spending time in certain magical countries which I shan't name...

And so deep in a certain Egyptian river that they get rains of hippo and crocodile doody on their heads as a regular thing.

Dr Rekers...just be a REAL man and own up.
That's what REAL men do...they don't lie and prevaricate or make excuses. They face reality and are honest with themselves and those around them.

Dude just keeps digging himself deeper and deeper.
If the waffling and attempts at deflection weren't so pathetic it would be funny...and vice versa.

Could one of them be the man Rachel had on and they showed him holding the "sinner" in his lap and 'counseling' him? Boy, bet they both can't wait for the next session JMO !
