According to Wikipedia, it is a Mormon myth, young warriors who were all injured, but none died of their injuries. There seems to be a militaristic unlying base to the myth. Wikipedia does not have much on it and I have not taken the time to find much more about it.
I ask because a former acquaintance has set up The Stripling Warrior Foundation and I am wondering if it is a way to recruit young men into a militia type organization. This particular foundation is in Florida (Gainesville area) and I have not found any equivalent groups in other states.
The guy who I knew is a crook - he and his wife have a habit of ripping off people who consider him a friend. When he stole money from Mr. csziggy, he told me it was OK since we are not Mormons - that it only counted if Mormons stole from each other. That was the first inkling I had that he was Mormon, he had never mentioned any sort of faith previous to that comment. Because he is such a loose cannon, I google him every so often - the last time I looked him up he had just settled back taxes with the IRS.
If the Stripling Warriors Foundation is a militia group recruitment tool, I hope this guy lives up to his history and steals from them. But if his comment to me is truly part of his philosophy, he would not steal from a Mormon organization.
I thought someone here might have more info on the group and their aims.
