I had another encounter with the medical establishment this morning.
Edited on Tue May-11-10 09:04 AM by Are_grits_groceries
I found a lump in my right breast last night. After I came down from the ceiling, I realized I had bruised that spot, and there could be another cause besides doom. I went to sleep with no problem, but when I woke up, boy did I wake up.

I was having an anxiety attack from hell. I finally managed to calm myself down again. I decided it could be from bruising the area or my brain could have grown and traveled to a new location in my body.

I saw my doctor, and he told me to wait 2 weeks to get a mammogram because getting one now could cause bleeding if it was caused by the bruise. This is when I wanted to point out once again that if men had to have their d**** mashed between 2 plates to determine if there was a disease, a much less painful method would be cheap and widespread by now. I am still not 'safe', but I feel better.

I am also going to make a visit to those toads who are supposed to represent their constituents: Sanford, Graham and DeMint aka Larry, Moe and Curly. I don't have insurance. I also have pre-existing conditions so I am either declined or the premiums would be extremely costly.

I am going to tell them 'how the cow ate the cabbage' as we say in the South. When Southerners begin to discuss the eating habits of ruminants, it is an extremely serious situation.

I want to ask them how I am supposed to pay my medical bills. Going to the emergency room is an option, but that cost is the highest you can get in a lot of cases. I could tote around a load of chickens and see if their are any takers. I could travel to Lourdes, but that is also costly.

Since that moran Sanford said that he wasn't going to create a high risk pool, I would like to know about his plans for that also. I will remind all of them that because of the inanity of their leadership, living in SC has become a pre-existing condition all by itself.

I want them to divvy up the uninsured people in SC and put them on their coverage. We have become their dependents after all.

To hear them speak, the only thing they seem to represent is saving freedom and cutting taxes. I'll play this for them on my way out:

1. As a student of speech patterns and methods, I gotta tell ya,
I frikkin LOVE southerners! Language may be threatened by texting and the cutting of course requirements as a means of saving the rich a few tax dollares, but as long as there are three southerners alive, it shall not perish!

"When Southerners begin to discuss the eating habits of ruminants, it is an extremely serious situation." <---- classic and a great way for me to start my day.

And sending good vibes for a good news outcome. Will keep you in thoughts and my version of prayers. You are important to many and your health is, therefore, very important.

10. Funny but true story
When I was in Navy boot camp back in '67 during the evenings for a couple hours we were allowed to be people rather than recruits and we'd all get around in a big circle and tell stories, after a while I noticed that when I would talk everyone would be intensely listening to me. They weren't listening to what I was saying they were immersing themselves in my southern northeastern oklahoma accent. At first I thought boy these guys think I'm somebody to listen to but then it dawned on me they were just listening to me talk, taking none of it in. LOL

13. When I heard that commercial from that moran
running for office in Alabama about "We speak English" here, I didn't know what was wrong. LOL

I'm sure his accent grated on people, but I thought it was mild.

15. See, for me the accents are noted (and I'm a fair hand at guessing location)
but it is the phrasing and colloquialisms that are so enriching. I would have been paying attention to your tales and how you chose words to tell them.

2. the current "reform" was developed n passed by democrats so ranting against repubs
is only partially valid really. Once dems gutted reform to brown nose and appease repubs the "cabbage" was cooked already.

4. I am speaking specifically about
how the Republican morans have governed this state. I don't care what the health care package ended up being, they would have dithered and fought it somehow. AND please don't tell me that that's not true and people would not stand for it. 'Stray Cats' Bauer may be the next governor.

Of course, the dark horse candidate, Nikki Haley, could win. Then we would be doomed for sure. Dante couldn't write a more horrible fate. She may not be able to distance herself yet from Sanford, but Jenny Sanford is backing her. If she would bring in Jenny to run her campaign, all bets would be off.

Haley is a disciple of the DeMint and Sanford doctrine. She is extremely smart and telegenic. If McCain had plucked her out of obscurity, I believe he would have won.

She does not come off as a flaming idiot while she espouses their nonsense. Haley can explain it so it seems to make sense.

3. I know it's hard
calm down love. I've gone through that, too. Plus probes down the throat and up the uh..well. ya know.

Ask your Dr. about a breast sonogram. They are painless.

I like what you said about having their d*ck smashed. That's not good enough - smashing their testicles is more like the pain we feel with those damn hydrolic presses. Every OB-GYN male should have to endure one to get a license. Maybe they'd invent something less painful.

 remain calm - right, listen to who is writing major panic master, herself. <3

6. Seconding this.
Ask for an ultrasound. Not the same as a mammogram, but can provide information. I get them before mammograms, because i tend to have fluid-filled cysts that must be aspirated (if they aren't, I see God when I have a mammogram -- worst pain I've ever experienced). Just like an ultrasound for pregnant women -- gel spread on the breast and then the device (don't know what it's called) is passed over your skin.

I confuse sonograms with ultrasound.

9. Honestly, they may be the same thing, I don't really know.
I just used the term I'm familiar with. I hope I didn't offend you -- I was trying to support your suggestion.

offend me - never. :) I do get confused with the medical terms. Have had 88 tests at Duke and they still can't find what they're looking for. Now, THAT offends me!

I'm a Jersey girl, too. Moved to NC 3 years ago, love it.

Hey Grits... sorry about this semi-hijack of your thread. I'm a bit wired today as I know you are, too.

12. I'm with you there -- must be terribly frustrating.
Meanwhile, let's hope someone with a medical background tells us what (if any) difference exists between "sonogram" and "ultrasound." Now it's going to bug me till I know!

I believe even Republicans can see the pain and suffering those of us with insurance issues have. When we can put a face on real-life issues, it is to our advantage. Regardless of whether the Dems blew the health reform plan, it is moot. The Repugs would have ruined any good plan the Dems would have tried to achieve. I also have Republican State leaders who don't want pools. You can be damn sure I will be down their necks when I face a problem similar to yours.

Forgot to say, try to stay calm. I know how hard it is, but most of these lumps are benign. You'll have plenty of time later to worry, it it's not.
