Wasn't "Pay as you go" part of the Democratic agenda?
If so, shouldn't any war funding bill include a tax hike to pay for it?

If the American people support this war, they should have no problems paying for it.

1. It was Kerry's agenda - it would make sense for dems to demand it.
Currently Bush has given us a birth tax with his fiscal irrersponsibility - its times for adults to demand an end to the birth tax by implementing pay go.

3. It's not just Bush.
Any elected official who votes to fund the war without raising taxes is forcing future generations to pay for Bush's war.

I believe the political science term for such members of Congress is "useless".

2. Uh the American people stopped supporting this war some time ago.
Thanks to the electoral system, it basically doesn't matter.

4. Good point. Keeping the war "off budget" has been
a shell game from the very first. Among other things it hides the opportunity costs, e.g. with the billions we have spent in Iraq, we could have fixed our own infrastructure.

5. Red Ink Republicans pay as you go?????? Never ever ever going to happen
Republicans still tie the Democrats hands when it comes to overturning a veto. Bush* is still in the drivers seat..

7. Not on funding
Veto a funding Bill, and there's no funding. Zilch. Democrats have the upper hand on this.

They don't need a law to enact this. They only need to follow a policy.

But there's an easier solution to this war: No funding. At all. Ever.

6. Every Republican Candidate and even Thompson
in his speech last night.----we will be living under a
mushroom cloud eons into the future. we must continue
wars against Radical Islamic Gihadists. Each one tried
to show he was stronger than the next in fighting wars.

Wars cost much money. It costs money to defend this\
country. A war tax is essential if we are continuing
down this path. Democrats had better get a voice.

The "Starve the Beaster Republicanszzz' (Regan initiated this--
Use up all the money in the till on war and
you will get rid of SS Medicare and other social programs.
Always be aware of the hidden agenda. Remember that gosh
awful deficit he (Regan) left due to Military Buildup.

I support a strong Military and want our troops taken
care of at all times. I just believe we should be willing
to pay for it with a Graduated Tax. The Poor and MiddleClass
have born the financial burden of this war as well as
sacrificing their children. War Tax is necessary.
