Ohio Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher won the Democratic nomination for an open Senate seat on Tuesday and will face former Rep. Rob Portman (R) in one of the nation's most closely watched Senate races.

With about one-third of the vote counted, Fisher led Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner (D) by 56 percent to 44 percent. Fisher outperformed Brunner in fundraising, had the support of Gov. Ted Strickland (D) and was the preferred candidate of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.

"Lee Fisher is focused on creating jobs, holding Wall Street accountable, and stopping the excesses of oil and insurance companies," DSCC chairman Robert Menendez (N.J.) said in a statement that also accused Portman, a former budget and trade official to President George W. Bush, of having "created the economic mess we are in."

1. So the DLC character assassination plot worked?
Eliminated any possibility of a Democratic senator for Ohio, and left them with a Hobson's choice of two Repukes.

One would think Ohio would have had enough of right wing bullshit after 30 years of economic devastation.

Guess not. :evilfrown:

4. I wouldn't say that. Fisher is just an establishment Democrat...
...while Brunner is more of a Howard Dean Democrat.

5. Well, that sucks. He's still a lot better than Portman.
Assuming he can avoid a third state-wide election defeat.
