Pink Buckets for the Cure: eat fried chicken to fund breast cancer research...

In the latest incarnation of pink ribbon promotions, the prominent breast cancer advocacy group Susan G. Komen for the Cure has teamed up with KFC in a national "Buckets for the Cure" campaign which will run until May 23.

But while the endeavor guarantees to bring big money to the cause, this unlikely partnership is rustling more than a few feathers in the breast cancer community -- eating fatty foods, argue some detractors, increases the risk of breast cancer.

For each pink bucket of chicken purchased, KFC will donate 50 cents to Komen with the ultimate goal of $8 million -- which would be the single largest donation ever received by the organization....

While corporate partnerships like the "pink bucket" provide essential non-profit funding for breast cancer advocacy, Komen's current campaign raises the question among some critics: is pink promotion being taken too far?

1. Promote torturing animals for food to fund torturing more of them for research.
I love this shit. Hey, for 50 cents, how about instead eating something good for you and donating the 8 bucks you'd spend for a bucket of extra crispy hell somewhere that makes a difference. Not that Komen doesn't/hasn't made a difference, it's just a BS campaign and those dollars might do better elsewhere.

It's Friday night. Flame away.

4. I think you might have brought unnecessary popcorn
This was, at best, a poorly conceived promotional. At worst, well, see my other post. It burns.

3. It's like fucking for virginity
Sometimes, teh stupid, it burns so bad.

The cause of breast cancer may well be found at the bottom of that pink bucket. The cure certainly will not be.

6. To be fair,
there's a decent chance that the pink bucket o' dead birds and fat will kill you long before you have a chance to develop breast cancer.

7. I saw two commercials back to back
The first was the K Fried in grease C ad donating 50 cents out of an $8 bucket, followed by one for Dawn dishwashing liquid that says they'll give a dollar for wildlife for each bottle sold for what I'm guessing is no more than $4.

I guess if there's no progress in breast cancer research, it's our fault for no buying chicken. Why don't they just make a large donation? Dawn is no better, except that their product can remove oil from birds instead of adding it like KFC.

10. 'Why don't they just make a large donation?' - BINGO. It's like "American Idol gives back"
Every year the Idol show has a big telethon in which the viewers donate millions of dollars...I am always wondering what Idol is "giving back"? It's the viewers spending the money~!

9. This is, by far, the dumbest promotion I have ever seen.
By far. Way to go KFC. You've finally outdid everyone else.
