PHOENIX – Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is expected to announce Monday if he'll run for Arizona governor.

If the Sheriff is going to run, he has to announce soon so he can start collecting the necessary signatures to file for the primary election. That filing deadline is May 26th.

He'll also have to resign as Maricopa County Sheriff.

1. Run Joe, Run
And hopefully, we find out that his popularity in Maricopa County doesn't translate to popularity in the rest of the state, and we can be rid of this grandstanding jerk once and for all. Or at least until he becomes a Fox News contributor.

4. Good. He wouldn't be the first AZ governor to be indicted by the feds
Maybe Fife Symington III can give him pointers on how to enter chef college after getting yanked from office and serving time in prison.

11. I wish I still had the article but I read something
about Symington wanting to attempt a political comeback. Guess he's hoping Arizonans have a short memory.

18. I saw that too. Nearly choked on my coffee
I still recall how scared he was on that second presser about the UFO over the Valley of the Sun, the one with his chief of staff dressed up as some alien space guy. Remember that? The federal investigation was pretty well done and the indictment was imminent. Ol Fife came out swinging in the first presser, DEMANDING to know what the military might be doing, if that was what all the lights were about. Then, suddenly, it was all a joke and he got off pretty easy when he was sentenced.

Ol Fife, a whiter kind of pale... could he make a comeback? In AZ? Shit, I wouldn't bet against it.

13. No, she got the job same as a lot of other AZ govs; she inherited it when elected gov moved on...
on to eternal rewards, on to being retired due to impeachment, on to federal prison, or, in the case of the last elected gov, on to a job in D.C. by way of being appointed by the POTUS.

AZ probably holds the record for governors who were not elected.

9. Most of the crazy guys AZ has elected gov have just been foolishly annoying
This might set a new standard.

Sadly, he would probably get lots of donations from around the country. Wish I had a quarter for every 'Joe can save America' email I have received from idiots in other states who have not got a clue about what Joe is really about.

10. oh, and with all the voter suppresion going on there...
That IS what the papers please law is really about. Just one more phase in a long line of racist efforts to keep Hispanics from voting.

20. Out of the frying pan and into the fire if the SOB wins.
I don't think he would. The entire state, not just Maricopa County, would have to vote for him.

21. No, but a basic interview with a team of mental health care workers
experienced with sociopaths might not be a bad idea.

23. That law would never pass in Arizona.
Why? because it's an old saying that "Nobody's really from Arizona".

It may be an exaggeration, (certainly the Navajo, Apache, Hopi, and other tribes have been there a long long time) but of all the people I know there, none were actually born in that state.
