Talk Show Host Says He's Glad Radio Rival's Mother Is Dead

MILWAUKEE -- A former alderman and controversial radio talk show host said he's happy the mother of his radio rival is dead.

Michael McGee Sr. made the comments during his radio show on WNOV-AM Thursday morning. Charlie Sykes is a radio talk show host on WTMJ-AM. Sykes' mother, Katherine B. Sykes, died in a house fire Tuesday. The Ozaukee County Coroner said Thursday that Sykes died of smoke inhalation.

This is a local story, that seems to be making it's way to national status for no good reason.

While what the host said was vile, there is no comparison between this and Imus. Imus was racist, this is not. Imus is a national show, this is not. But anything to keep people "engaged" in what's really important I guess...:eyes:

Shock jocks get famous (and thus get paid more) for pushing the envelope. As more people try to push back the ever-more permissive standards of decency in order to get higher ratings, the public dialog becomes coarser and coarser. A mathmatic equation would look like this:

Imus => Stern => O'Reilly => Coulter => n

Where the value "n" represents the next level of degeneration in attacking civility in the country.

Once people get involved in finding ways to economically punish those who cross the line, we can start to return civility to public discourse. Just remember, if you want to see the Coulters and Becks and Hannitys of the world shamed into speaking respectfully and honestly, we have to expect DUers to lay off the "Bushitler" and "*" and Nazi-baiting crap.

But not "Commander Bunnypants". That's too much of a classic to give up.
