***Breaking*** Another oil rig overturns in Louisiana

05:07 PM

Reuters is reporting that a "mobile inland drilling unit" has overturned in the Charenton channel at Morgan City, La.

The Coast Guard is responding. No damage reports yet.

Watch for updates.

1. ::screams::
Congress needs to pass a bill that requires we get AT LEAST 20% of our energy from renewable sources by 2020.

10. We can do better than 20%.
I'd push for AT LEAST 50%.

We can do it. It's just that nobody wants to.

13. I agree, we can do more than 20%.
The political will just isn't there.

::sighs::

Renewable energy can create LOTS of jobs but no...let's give companies a $1,000 tax credit when they hire someone...Surely that will drive the unemployment rate down!

:sarcasm:

4. Basically it was a rig headed for a salvage yard on a barge.

It overturned and no fuel leak was detected. However boom was put in place in case of a leak.

12. Thanks
I so hope you're right, but I remember the tug/tanker incident in the SF Bay a few years ago. Early reports were of very little spill. It turned out to be really ugly. Not like the one in the gulf now, but ugly. The short message is I'm suspicious of "no problem, folks" estimates.

9. If it really is a mobile inland rig, it is infinitesimally small compared to the offshore platforms
Maybe the hysteria is a little premature...?

11. Another example of big business privatizing the profits but socializing the true costs.
