Cop caught smoking pot on duty in patrol car
FORT WORTH, Tex. (NBC) -- A Texas police officer was arrested Wednesday after he was caught with marijuana while on duty.

Officer Wesley Lamb faces charges of drug possession and tampering with evidence.

Police said the investigation was the result of a tip from an unidentified person who reported witnessing Lamb smoke marijuana in uniform, in his patrol car, while on duty.

Undercover officers assigned to a special internal affairs investigative unit then set up a sting operation.

An undercover officer posed as a citizen who wanted to turn in 86 grams of marijuana that he found to police.

Lamb did not report the incident or bring the drugs to the property room, police said.

Then smokes it himself...

Seen it in college.

Why do we give random drug tests to factory workers but not cops with a gun and a badge?

Something is strange about that isn't it?

30. people here like unions ?
Since when?

Now let me tell you a story about one of the cops in town here. One of the local farmers has a developmentally disabled son. The son is probably my age. But mentally he is probably about 10 years old. This cop makes a point of stopping in the restaurant in town here when the farmer is there with his son in the evening.

The reason this officer stops in every day is to give that farmers son a ride in the police car. Lights, siren and all.

One of the nicest things I have ever seen anyone do in my life. I can't get it out of my mind. I stop in the restaurant even when I am not hungry about that time of day just to see his face. I really like telling this story.

Most cops I know are just as nice as this one.

33. yes, they do
DU'ers overwhelmingly support unions.

are you doubting this?

thanks for the story btw. warms my heart

fwiw, unions are advocacy groups. they don't fight for the "general good" they fight for their constituents. i LOVE our union. they kick ass. we get GREAT benefits, and really good protection. but they are not fighting for the benefit of society at large, and sometimes advocate for things and officers that are contrary to the public good.

that's their job

fwiw, due to WA constitution, for all i know random drug tests are pretty difficult to justify since WA state constitution has a right to privacy.

in our state, there must be reasonable suspicion before a public employee can be piss tested

again, thanks for the story

34. I can't get that story out of my mind
It's weird. I think about it all the time. Tell it to everyone I know too. Probably more than once.

I try to be as thoughtful and considerate as this cop is in my own life. He sets a great example.

And its not just that either. This guy would give you the shirt off his back if someone needed it. I wish we had a lot more cops like this one.

35. one of my first training officers was like this
i remember he would take time out of his shift to go talk to this homeless guy. he would bring him homecooked food, sit down to talk to him, etc. and ALWAYS as a equal. there was no pity or patronization. he just truly cared.

he once had to shoot an armed robber, and was actually pretty bummed out about it.

there are a lot of guys like this, and of course there are some major pricks

10. He wasn't actually caught smoking on the job
It's not like he was working stoned out of his gourd or anything. He was just caught feeding his stash with freebie weed. He should have known if it seemed too good to be true it was.

15. Well,the cops say an uniderntified witness saw it, it's probably a lie, or maybe it's not.
But it don't mean anything as far as reality goes.

For all we know, the entire force could be toking up on duty, or nobody did. We wouldn't know.

19. WE have a four lane hiway in tulsa that enter and exits in the mediam
and a friend and i was sitting at the light after exiting where the lane entering the hiway going the opposite direction was 2 ft from you and as we're waiting for the light to change we seen a cop light up a joint and hand it to the driver, another cop, as we were for a moment in time almost like frozen. The cop who had just lit the joint caught me eye to eye as they passed too. By the time they could have got back to us we were long gone but it still worried us that they'd be looking for the truck we were in. A truck that really stood out. Best I remember it kinda freaked us out and so we went to another town to bar hop.

37. Y'know, I was hitchhiking maybe thirty-five ago and got picked up
by a couple of nice clean-cut kids in blue uniform who told me they were coming back from their swearing-in ceremony. They pointed out the hash-pipe between them in front near the cassettes, said they were looking to toke to celebrate, and asked if I could help them score. Hippy me sort of nonchalantly said I wouldn't know, not being from around those parts. Got a nice long ride with them, had a pleasant enough chat. I never really made up my mind whether they thought a random hippy would be dumb enough to help the blues score so they could make their first bust or whether they were really hoping to find a connection.

39. I hope they caught him on camera scrambling to throw it out the window and hide the smell
when the cops showed up. "Ah shit man its the fuzz. Oh wait, I am the fuzz. Right on? Hey ossifer what's up?" It would be like a scene from Super Troopers and Superbad rolled into a neat little package.
