They Blinked
Please, please dems, memorize this lesson, when you push backm bullies cave. Walking softly but carry that big stick and BTW, you probably won't have to use the stick. Do what they do, just threaten the use of it. And congrats on holding the line on bank reform. Keep doing it.

2. Excuse me?
They gave away the freakin' store on that "healthcare reform" bill. Now we are all at the mercy of Big Insurance - and they're still practicing recission and increasing premiums.

6. Then how come no GOP votes?
I'm not saying HCR is perfect...far from it.

The OP was simply saying the GOP will blink if you stand-up to them. The OP's point that bullies back down if you stand-up is fair and reasonable except we are not dealing with reasonable people in the GOP. They are homocidal profiteers.

12. No Con Votes Because They Thought They Had Obama Over A Barrel.
They demagogued it so that it seemed tenuous that the country would support it and that it would pass. And the dems handled the whole thing in-artfully to say the least. Yet they still stood up enough to get it passed even with the polls against them. It was the beginning of their spine growth and ever since they've been pushing back and it's starting to work for them. That was lesson number 1 and it was for the dems.

With finance they went one step too far and overplayed their hand, especially in light of the country supporting it. The same will play out with immigration now that so many Cons have expressed their problem with the law. I can see the videos now.

5. The GOP
Not 1 vote until the bitter end and they're still actively campaigning against it even after passage.

7. That's what I thought you meant, but some of the other responses made me
wonder if I'd interpreted your post wrong.

I'd heard on Financial Reform there were some who spoke as though they might support it, but when it came time for the vote, that 'ol Republican NO vote was unanimous again. Now, they've indicated they MAY be a little more flexible if certain provisions are changed, but regardless of what changes are made (like in HCR) they'll still vote no. I don't trust them and don't believe anything they say any more. Like Lucy with the football -- a perfect analogy that was used repeatedly here during the Health Care brouhaha.

8. YES!!! MITCH IS OUR BITCH!!!
Of course, this same kabuki dance is gonna be repeated in a few weeks when it comes to a final vote, and let's hope the pattern holds - GOP filibusters, Dems push the GOP into the loving arms of radioactive Goldman Sachs, keep up with repeated cloture votes, let the GOP get fried with radiation until they cave.

9. they seem to tire easily, or 9 pm is their bedtime
just the threat of keeping the senate open all night was enough.

Maybe Harry should tell them there will be no more milk and cookies.
