This Is The Worst One Yet
My wife's father, who never allows his TV channel to be changed from Fox News.........EVER.........just called my wife. No big deal, he calls often, just to catch up, but sometimes it's to relay the latest thing he's "outraged" about that he heard on Faux News. Today was one of those. I just found out because my wife came to ask me if it was true. Guys, seriously, this is the worst one yet, so if you're not sitting down for this one, read at your own risk, because you'll either fall down from laughter or start wretching uncontrollably, depending on your personality.

Today, he called because my wife's mother (who is a very intelligent person who doesn't usually buy into the right-wing bullshit--but her problem is that she's bombarded with it 24 hours a day and doesn't really know WHAT to believe anymore) told him last night that she heard "somewhere" (guess where) that the government is going to start coming into people's homes, confiscating their wood-burning stoves, inspecting their light bulbs, and generally doing everything possible to harass Americans who aren't being as "green" as possible. Now, first of all, does this sound even REMOTELY PLAUSIBLE? Do you REALLY think the government has THAT kind of manpower, to send agents to every home in America and start confiscating stuff? Trust me, if the government had that kind of manpower, Bush would have used it to search every home in America for "evidence" of terrorist leanings (the guy tapped all of our phones, you don't think he'd do warrantless searches if he could?)

And here's the kicker: she said that the law that allows them to do this is "something called 'Cap and Trade.'"

At this point, I nearly fell over laughing. When my wife asked me why I was laughing, I explained to her what "Cap and Trade" really was. Then she nearly fell over laughing too.

Really, is there NOTHING that's TOO RIDICULOUS for Faux News to report? And even worse, is there NOTHING these right-wing shills won't swallow whole and ask for more? A person of below-average intelligence would be skeptical of ANY report claiming government agents are going to be coming into your homes. Why do seemingly-normal people believe whatever horse-excrement Faux News sees fit to pollute our airwaves with?

8. That's an insult to the WWN
which was the best satire weekly in the US bar none. Made the Onion look like pikers IMHO. The proof is that so many people thought they were serious.

13. thank you
that was enlightening. this bogus claim is apparently on its second time around the block: Update, April 26, 2010: We wrote about these claims again in April 2010, when chain e-mails popped up claiming that this bill would require homeowners to get a license before they could sell their homes.

http://www.survivalistboards.com/showthread.php?p=1523604
but that's almost a year old.

a news search for wood burning stove turned up nothing. i think your MIL may be surfing to some radical websites?

9. I Was Told, "It's On The Internet Somewhere"
Apparently my FIL told my wife that "it's on the internet somewhere" and that she should go look it up because he couldn't (they don't have internet access in their home.

So it HAD to either come from Faux News or from whichever right-wing screamer was on the radio late last night or early this morning.

10. Tell him that IRS agents backed up by squads of armed military are going
door-to-door in my neghborhood already checking every occupant for a valid medical card; based on information from the current census, I had to produce evidence of each person domiciled at my residence was a legal resident of this country.

They took my daughter to the FEMA camps as her medical card was expired, and she couldn't find her latest one.

I was told under orders from the UN not to relate this information to anyone.

People make up crap just like this everyday and post it as truth. The gullible, ignorant, anf fearful swallow it whole.

16. There HAS to be a way liberals can make $$ off of this. Let's start BETTING
these wingnuts that if "outrage X" doesn't happen by a certain time (3 weeks...2 months, whatever) then they owe us so many dollars. Then if it DOES happen, we owe them so many dollars.

Tell these idiots to put their signature to a piece of paper, and keep the bets. Maybe we could all donate our winnings to the school systems, and hope these stupid mofo's kids can get a better education.

18. Well, there's something called RECO here in Berkeley
http://www.ci.berkeley.ca.us/ContentDisplay.aspx?id=19562

I'm in the process of shopping for my first house so I'm learning all about RECO. I actually think it'll be helpful for me so I don't mind a bit (except for the low-flow shower heads ... Grrr). Maybe that's what your wife's mother heard about.

There's no confiscation of property or carting you off to prison or anything like that of course.
