Pope could issue mea culpa over sex abuse scandal: Vatican official

Top Vatican official says he ‘wouldn’t be surprised’ if pontiff issues apology at June summit

Pope Benedict XVI may issue a mea culpa for clerical sex abuse at a June meeting of the world's priests at the Vatican.

The June 9-11 summit, initially called to mark the end of the Vatican's year of the priest, had already morphed into a pep rally for the pope as he came under fire amid a new wave of reports on sex abuse by clerics.

1. I could issue an I-don't-give-a-fuck over the Pope's mea culpa
Talk is cheap. I wanna see some real, concrete action to stop this.

2. Here is the new strategy:

On Wednesday, Benedict promised “church action” to confront the scandal, and the Vatican has said it will do everything in its power to bring justice to abusive priests and implement “effective measures” to protect children.

4. Conversations with my father
An old Broadway play I saw. Jewish father reads a headline from the paper.

"Pope declares jews not responsible for Christ's death".

His response is "Thank you very much you greasy putz".

Some how that came to mind when I read this.

5. At the average rate of Vatican apologies
We should hear something about this in the year 2260. Why rush into things?

7. Unless accompanied by a resignation & that of nearly all the cardinals
and other accessories to the cover-up, then who on earth cares?

10. If he did then one of the tenets of the Catholic Church would be jeopardized.

The Pope is supposed to be infallible.

9. The pope should wear sackcloth and ashes on his head and move out of the Vatican
to a a hut in the woods too. Mea culpas from public figures are always pro forma and usually meaningless. The ministries of heads of religious organizations are into power. All of those people who seem to think they are Christ's emissaries on earth should be required to adhere to vows of poverty and help the needy and helpless--any denomination.
