Troy Davis (on death row) gets his day in court.
For those of you who followed the case of Troy Davis, I am happy to report that he will get his day in court. Troy Davis was convicted of murdering a police officer, but the evidence was shaky to begin with and over time the evidence became weaker with new evidence and recantations.

I am a death penalty supporter, but this case does not meet my criterion of certainty to apply the death penalty. I'm glad he'll get his day in court. It may not work out for Davis, but at least the new evidence will have to be considered officially.

Troy Anthony Davis hearing set for June 30
Posted: April 27, 2010 - 3:05pm

A June 30 hearing was scheduled in federal court to hear evidence on whether convicted murderer Troy Anthony Davis can establish his innocence in the 1989 slaying of Savannah police officer Mark Allen MacPhail.

Chief U.S. District Judge William T. Moore Jr. also ordered all parties to file a list of all witnesses, affidavits and other evidence by June 11.

Davis remains on death row at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison at Jackson for this 1991 conviction and death sentence in the MacPhail case.

The U.S. Supreme Court in August sent the case to federal court with instructions for the court to “receive testimony and make findings of fact as to whether evidence that could not have been obtained at the time of trial clearly establishes (Davis’) innocence.’’
