Is her position as a 'journalist' so tenuous she feels she needs to kiss so much republican ass? She's interviewing Granholm on SOTU, and is giving her a rough time working in her lighter-than-air RW talking points about America's manufacturing base and the Dem-only led effort to reboot it - what gives with Candy Crowley?

1. I don't think she's much of a journalist at all. Never did. I have seen her
demonstrate considerable personal grace to someone I know.

But I think her politics have been suspect for a long time.

3. I have a theory about Crowley which is not very flattering...
I know she adored George W. Bush*, but it goes further than that. She has been an over-the-top apologist for years--even for the most extreme segments of the "right."

My hunch is that she does so, somewhat like the abused kid who defends the bullies in a deranged hope they won't turn on them. I think Crowley has had decades of personal insecurity that triggers that behavior (and God, knows the right wing would be merciless against someone like Crowley--so unlike the slim MILF Palin-type that they perceive to be "acceptable".

7. not everything is about some individual psychological dysfunction.
you might ask why crowley, who's not a particularly outstanding or exciting commentator, is one of the only overweight/un-pretty women journalists on television.

she's a private-school kid from st louis, which was also her father's hometown.

st louis was also walker/bush territory:

and still is:

I think it's as likely there's a long-standing connection, & part of crowley's "success" has something to do with that connection.

15. That is close to the most reasonalbe explanation
not disagreeing ming you I think it could go more under the serface

just theorizing

she could be a devout (to the cause) Christian. There is a network of like minded brothers resulting from the Promise Keepers movement of the 90's. IT is like Masons but via Blackberry.

Who knows.

There is really no reason for her to be reporting and hosting at this point unless the friends of her bosses at the country club like what she says

4. It just makes her job easier.
Like so many so-called 'journalists' these days, it's much more cushy to cover a flea circus than to do some actual work, like reporting on something relevant. This, of course, requires actual footwork and research, but it appears that is not important in a ratings-driven environment.

Candy is just a symptom of a much larger problem: The loss of objective media as a public service as mandated prior to 1996, and the following transformation of 'news' into a for-profit enterprise.

This is why real news only comes from sources like the BBC and the CBC. We used to be able to rely on NPR and PBS, but the Republicans ruined that, too.

5. Candy Crowley is a Conservative Republican. To be fair until
recently she tried very hard to stay in the middle
in framing her reports.

After the election, it became quite obvious that
CNN hung a right because stories and comments became
framed from a "Right" perspective. They contort
into pretzels always explaining away the Republican
side and defending the Republican position.
Candy was part of this change at CNN.

8. She's NOT a journalist - she's a GOP mouthpiece for the propaganda machine used to be known
as a news network.

9. The last straw for me was when she gushed profusely about Bush
She traveled with him during his first campaign he must have winked at her because she acted like she was love struck with him.
