E-cigarettes
At one point, I smoked 4-5 packs of filterless smokes a day.

I considered quitting once, twenty years ago, but failed.

For the last 20 or so years, I've smoked 2 packs a day.

I just got an e-cigarette kit yesterday.

I've smoked 5 real cigarettes, since yesterday, when I usually would have smoked about 70-80.

I'm posting this because one DU member proposed that e-cigs are a gateway drug. I wanted to check it out. They're very, very helpful to me.

8. Took me a couple of tries to find a device that I liked and a smoke juice that worked for me.
I still smoke but these have brought my smoking way down and saved me a bundle.

2. Mike Molloy was talking about the e-cigarettes the other day.
He seems to think it's a wonderful product and had a lot of information on them. I wish my S.O. would try it. Keep us posted and best of luck to you!

I often wonder if cigarette smokers know how they smell.

Pretty disgusting.

5. They do not stink
There is a little aroma from them but depending on what type or flavor of smoke juice people use, it is generally not unpleasant.

6. There's a certain tone of antagonism in your post, but I'll try to answer it.
E-cigarette smoke is water vapor. It smells like apple or vanilla. You have your choice of menthol.

I really have been disgusted and felt claustrophobic about people who have invaded my space. I'm trying to do something to make it better. You?

4. If they are helping you cut down that much in preparation for quitting
they're a good deal. As much as you smoke, they're probably saving you money already.

You're still damaging your cardiovascular system with the nicotine, but these things have helped a lot of people quit when they're finally ready.

Good luck. It sounds like a great first step.

13. Thank you.
I don't know if I'm quitting. It is what it is. I'm a really bitter, southern, educated male, and I have a hard time listening to anyone tell me what to do.

I'm giving it a shot and following it through. I've pointed this stuff out to the more hard core smokers of my acquaintance.

Good luck to us all.

18. Nobody quits until they're damned good and ready
and then nobody can make them keep smoking.

I worked in a cardiac unit and my approach was to ask smokers if they knew why they needed to quit. If they said yes, I'd tell them I was going to save everybody's time and to consider themselves lectured. Then I'd either change the subject or leave.

It was only after that they'd start asking about what was available to help them quit.

It's only when people realize it's the nicotine telling them what to do that they get mad enough to quit.

"Should" and "ought" are always insufficient motivators.

10. Could you post what brand you have and maybe where you got them?
I`m a heavy smoker (2 packs a day), but I would really love to try these e-cigs. Thank you so much for posting!

15. Blu cigs
The starter pack is 60 bucks. It has 2 batteries, 1 atomizer, a charging kit, and 25 smoke-laden charges. For me, that was 8 days....it should be 10, but I hate menthol!

As a heavy smoker, this is changing my life. I'm not telling anyone what to do, but I'll gladly speak with you

11. Huge amount of information at this site:
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/

I did well with them many months ago, but the components I had were cheap junk, the batteries especially-- everything is imported from China (or was) and there was an embargo on the supplies for a while. Maybe it's better, now, and I should re-investigate. In fact, I know I should.

16. Some more sites:
http://www.ecigarettes365.com/buying_guide

http://www.ecigarettes365.com/forum/

My goddaughter uses Smoke51 and here is a YouTube review of them: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/video-reviews/4488-leafords-smoke-51-video-review-demo.html

There are often coupons for these cigarettes and it is good to check online for them because you can save a lot of money. Check sites like this one: http://www.retailmenot.com/view/smoke51.com

Just do a search and there is tons of info about e-cigarettes.

23. Thank you so much for the links, elocs-
I spent a lot of time browsing today and have some new supplies on order. I ordered a new kit and enough replacement parts, I should be able to make a good go of this. In the meantime, I found and dug out my USB pass-thru pen style (and an atomizer I thought had given up the ghost)-- and I am in business again with that while I watch for my package. I've used this almost all day and no cravings- none.

12. I tried them. Couldn't stop regs... so I do Chantix now. 5 weeks without smoking so far.
No weird dreams except for the usual peeing in public, and on my brother for destroying my comic books 33 years ago dreams. I know e-cigs helps a lot of people, just not me. But this drug does, and my insurance paid for it!

I smoked about 2 (reds) packs a day as well. Hang in there Brother (not my real one that I pee on in my dreams)!

14. My goddaughter got some from her mom for Christmas and she loved them.
She got Smoke51 e-cigarettes: http://www.ecigarettes365.com/category/SmokeFiftyOne51/All/5846

It looked like a real cigarette with a tip that glows orange and she would exhale what looked like smoke but was mostly water vapor and smelled faintly of chocolate. She smoked to get the nicotine and not all the other crap that comes along with tobacco and since the filters come in different amounts of nicotine it is possible to step down and quit.

She got down to where she was only smoking 1 or 2 tobacco cigarettes a day.

It's amusing that anyone at DU would talk about a "gateway drug" with pot being the resident god here.

17. Does Your Favorite Airline Allow E-cigarettes?
Both e-cig users and those who object to e-fumes will want to know which airlines allow e-cigs, and which do not.

21. Is that much water vapor good for your lungs?
Just wondering if they will find out inhaling water vapor directly into your lungs causes harm. I already know that smoke is bad for your lungs. So no wise-cracks ok???? lol

The vapor is from propylene glycol, a substance used in numerous food and cosmetic products.
