Baseball fans! DEMAND that MLB move the 2011 All-Star Game from Phoenix
Edited on Fri Apr-23-10 06:52 PM by wndycty
The economic impact of losing the 2011 All-Star Game will sting and possibly encourage other big events to pull out of Arizona. Don't forget in the early 1990's Phoenix lost the Super Bowl because of the MLK Holiday and U2 refused to play in Arizona.

3. You've got a typo
It was the MLK (Martin Luther King) holiday that cost Phoenix a Superbowl.

I don't do facebook, but I'll gladly vote somewhere else to have MLB move the 2011 All Star game OUT of Arizona unless and until this unholy legislation is reversed.

4. I think you meant MLK holiday, not MLB.
But you have the right idea. I joined the page.

24. I am aware that the Tagliabue-era NFL wouldn't play a Super Bowl there

And I think it is a real possibility that MLB would pull the All-Star Game from Arizona. Major League Baseball is by far the most racially diverse of the major North American sports leagues.

26. No players, no game
In 1964, the American Football League was set to play its allstar game in New Orleans. When visiting the French Quarter, some of the black players were mistreated, and subject to the Jim Crow laws of the time. The affected players held a meeting and decided not to play in the game. Remarkably, the white players and the league stood behind them and moved the game to Houston. This cost New Orleans an AFL franchise, but the only recently lifted curse of the Saints is another story.

Will MLB play a white only game in 2010? If the non-white players refuse to play, they will have to wrestle with this decision.
