Bret Michaels suffers huge brain hemorrhage
Source: Singer rushed to hospital after experiencing excruciating headache

Bret Michaels's health has taken a turn for the worse, PEOPLE has learned: After an excruciating headache late Thursday night, the star was rushed to an undisclosed hospital where doctors discovered he suffered a massive subarachnoid hemorrhage (bleeding at the base of his brain stem), according to a source close to the situation.

Michaels, 47, is currently in critical condition. "After several CAT scans, MRIs and an angiogram, decided to keep Michaels in the ICU and are running several tests to determine the cause. will be touch and go for the next few days while he is under intense observation," the source says.

The rocker's latest hospital visit follows his emergency appendectomy in San Antonio, Texas, on April 12. There is no word yet whether this new development is related to the rocker's recent appendectomy or to his diabetes.

After his appendectomy, Michaels remained in the hospital under his doctors' care — then transferred to a rehab facility specializing in diabetic patients.

7. Not the time nor circumstance for such a tasteless remark.
Bret Michaels is an entertainer and, as far as I know, never has hurt anyone. He deserves our best wishes. He has mine.

33. I hope "The Soup" hadn't taped before this happened.
Because nine times out of 10, he's featured! I've seen only one episode of "Rock of Love" but know all about it thanks to Joel McHale. I really hope he pulls through. If nothing else, he's entertaining.

2. I hope there's a positive outcome for him.
Maybe some don't like him for some of the TV shows he's done, but I admire anyone who can reinvent themselves and keep kicking, despite suffering from diabetes and whatever else may ail them.

Good luck, Bret Michaels.

6. Never cared for his music, but I wouldn't wish the medical condition on ANYONE.
He's had a bad string of luck...that fall from the stage, the appendectomy earlier this month, and now this...

...absolutely, good luck, and a speedy recovery.

8. This happened to my partner who lived through it
although, it's a rarity to live through this type of aneurysm/brain bleed. If it's repairable and he lives through it, he will require a long recovery. He does have his young age on his side. I hope he makes a full recovery.

but he seems like a decent enough sort of guy. This is so sad, he was recently stressing (on the show) about his daughter possibly being diagnosed with diabetes (as he is).

It's okay to write the most soul-killing, spirit-shriveling crap. After all, there are no RL consequences for cruelty to someone else, or are there? I'll bet those who hounded Pheobe Prince to her death thought it was okay, too. After all, it's only the Internet.

You and I both know the power of words, and it's unfortunate there are others who either can't or don't.

37. My mother saw an interview with him recently.
She described him as a singer who wears a bandana around his head and has diabetes. I knew who she meant right away, LOL. She liked him. Apparently diabetes was the subject of the interview and he said something about how terrible it was for him to find out his daughter might have it, too.

47. I learned about diabetes when my first Sheltie got it.
It's easier to manage in animals, I think. Their diets and activity are more routine. My aunt was diagnosed in her 80s when she was in a nursing home with dementia, and it was awful.

Similar situation.. life-long diabetic... spent the last year or so of his life going to dialysis 3 times a week, chronic infection from the fistula... finally passed out one night after complaining about "the worst headache I've ever had"... by the time they got him to the hospital in Seattle, there wasn't anything that could be done.

48. Interesting.
My aunt was diagnosed when she was in her 80s and was in a nursing home with dementia. Now, she hadn't been to a doctor since World War II, and this was 2000. (She had surgery, got a staph infection, nearly died, and was done with doctors.) We know she had high blood pressure and suspect she had a series of strokes that led to her dementia. We had no idea she had diabetes, since it doesn't run in the family, but those conditions seem to be tied together. A wonderful nurse had her tested.

53. Bret Michaels update: rocker is awake and talking
I don't know how good some of these sources are, but this would be good news:

http://www.examiner.com/x-34432-LA-Music-Industry-Examiner~y2010m4d23-Bret-Michaels-update-rocker-is-awake-and-talking

"Bret Michaels is conscious and in stable condition according to Rock of Love Season 2 winner Ambre Lake.

Lake made a statement to celebrity gossip website TMZ Friday evening, reporting that she had been in touch with Bret Michaels' family who told her the 80s-rocker-turned-reality-star was conscious and talking. Michaels suffered a brain hemorrhage Thursday night, leaving doctors unsure if the Poison and 'Celebrity Apprentice' star would recover."
