If Barack Obama's personal email had been hacked during the campaign by some punk right winger
how many here would be against Obama testifying at the trial, and how many here would be against the punk getting the maximum prison term?

1. They would probably do a video deposition to present in court.

But then he is much busier than Palin is.

Didn't he just guess the password?

3. She was using a Yahoo mail account to conduct state business
I don't think anyone here is against Palin OR Obama testifying against some prick whose idea of a good time is identity theft.

The difference between Obama and Palin is that his Yahoo account wouldn't have been hacked because he wouldn't have been using one for official business in the first place.

It's all about details.

13. Yeah what ever came of that aspect of it
Wasn't she violating Alaskan law by using such an account for official business?

For some really good reasons too!

20. That's the fine distinction
1). I don't think anyone here would defend hacking (and if they did, they're an idiot), and

2). You don't use a Yahoo / Hotmail / Earthlink / GMail account for official government business

So no, there's nothing wrong with her testifying, and while she's doing so, she should testify that she was a FRIKKEN' MAROON for using a Yahoo account for official business.

25. Not relevant (unfortunately)
And Obama was most likely doing a mix of private/official business through his Blackberry during the campaign...bleed over is almost unavoidable

9. Palin, in justifying her stance that the kid should be prosecuted, said "especially
since it was so impactful (or some non-existent word) to the Presidential race! I thought -- does she think that actually IMPACTED the outcome of the race? Damn, if only that kid hadn't found out my password, McCain and I would be running the country now!

10. I'd be mad as heck!
I'm sorry. I'd be ticked if someone hacked into my email account. And, I don't have anything in there of any importance. To me, that's like getting my mail out of my mailbox, opening it, making copies, and posting it around town. And, the whole, "it's a prank", like I ought to suck it up. Nope.

The reason they make examples out of these little fellas is to scare the next one out of thinking its cute. Before they zap someone we really do care about.

And, then, if people called my kid's cell phone because you thought it was cute to do this...

This is how stalkers and crazies get your info. I know I sound like "tin foil hat" and all, but in this day of identity theft...it's just not funny to me.

19. The very fascinating thing, though,
Edited on Fri Apr-23-10 05:28 PM by Blue_In_AK
is that Sarah Palin herself hacked the e-mail account of Randy Ruedrich when they were both on the Oil & Gas Commission here, which is how she earned some of her "corruption-busting" cred.

Then there is the hypocrisy that Palin herself has done her own bit of computer hacking. According to the September 20,2004, Anchorage Daily News, “Sarah Palin never thought of herself as an investigator. Yet there she was, hacking uncomfortably into Randy Ruedrich’s computer, looking for evidence that the state Republican Party boss had broken the state ethics law while a member of the Alaska Oil & Gas Conservation Commission.”

Not to mention that she didn't raise much of a fuss over the "Climategate" e-mails, which also were apparently hacked.

She is a hypocrite.
