Tea Parties, Backing The Arizona Immigration Bill - WaPo
Tea parties, backing the Arizona immigration bill
By David Weigel | April 23, 2010; 4:12 PM ET

<snip>

Arizona's SB 1070, the legislation that would allow law enforcement to demand proof of citizenship from anyone they find suspicious, is getting some clutch support from the local tea party movement.

From the Arizona Tea Party's page on how to rally for the bill:

We are asking for you to spread the word to see if anyone is available to come down there... to show your support of the bill.

They are meeting by the Arizona Flag on the House Lawn. Bring American Flags and signs if possible... Signs: We support "LEGAL" Immigration, In Mexico, You Must Be Legal... Why not here? - etc...

The call for protesters is a response to the teeming anti-SB 1070 protests outside of the Capitol.

So, here is one effort to give government more power that tea partiers are not pounding the pavement to oppose.

Isn't it "special" that we are starting to encode hatred and bigotry into our state laws once again?

First California with Prop 8, then Utah criminalizing miscarriages, and now Arizona with this stinking piece of shit law.

More proof that you cannot trust "states rights" with people's civil rights.

:puke:

2. So much for opposition to government intrusion into your lives
Silly me. Here I thought that the American Tealiban was opposed to government intervention in the lives of Americans. They meant that they were opposed to government intervention into <b>their</b> lives, not government intervention into the lives of non-white people. Sure, they have no problem with fucking with non-whites. Oh, and keep your hands off their government entitlements.

This travesty of an Arizona law is headed for the courts with the first detention. And then to the Supreme Court. It'll take a while, but it will certainly be interesting.

3. Now they support "Big Brother" stopping anyone on the street and asking them for "their papers".
But Obama's a facist, Marxist, socialist who is coming for them and they should arm themselves to fight against an oppressive government. Sure.

4. Arizona has hundreds of thousands of foreign snowbirds.
Will they be asking all of those Canadians for their passports? If the snowbirds stop coming Arizona's economy will go in the tank and there will be miles and miles of empty homes.

8. Suddenly they are for big government to go after
dark skinned people. It should be obvious that the teaparties are groups of right wingers who want Bush(or an equivalent) back in power.

years ago, i can't tell you how many self-styled "civil libertarians" in my former workplace thought racial profiling the Patriot Act was a GOOD thing (this was before they got the memo that it was 'cool' to be against it)... You know; because they always thought only the scary looking Islamists would be pulled out of line at the airport for an extensive search...

They just don't want BIG GUMMITT intrusion in their lives; to hell with the rest of us...
