Sarah Palin Defends Claim That Islam Is “Evil And Wicked Religion”

Ben Smith points out that Sarah Palin has come out in defense of evangelist Franklin Graham, Billy Graham’s son, who was disinvited by the Army from an official ceremony because of his history of anti-Islam remarks.

For once, this counts as Palin making real news: She’s siding with someone who unequivocally said Islam is a “very evil and wicked religion” in 2001.

In defending Graham, Palin claimed that Graham’s remarks were directed only at radical and violent Jihadists:

His comments in 2001 were aimed at those who are so radical that they would kill innocent people and subjugate women in the name of religion. Are we really so hyper-politically correct that we can’t abide a Christian minister who expresses his views on matters of faith? What a shame.

Actually, no, his comments weren’t aimed only at those radical enough to kill and subjugate women. They were directed at all of Islam. Here, according to the Charlotte Observer on November 19th, 2001, is what Graham said:

“We’re not attacking Islam but Islam has attacked us. The God of Islam is not the same God. He’s not the son of God of the Christian or Judeo-Christian faith. It’s a different God and I believe it is a very evil and wicked religion.

Palin says this isn’t a problem. That’s news, and I hope it’s widely reported, with Graham’s full quote included in every media account.

3. Oh she is painting herself into a very tight corner.
"The God of Islam is not the same God."

Now she has to justify that with not just American muslims but mormons and probably in her view, Catholics as well. This is gonna be re-played again and again if she runs for prez.

or for that matter someone else who thinks just like her.

The Battle of Armageddon could become a self-fulfilling prophesy - actually I suspect that is exactly what many of the crazier wing of the Fundamentalist movement honestly do have in mind

9. A Palin Presidency scares me. It wouldn't be beyond her to use nukes
Fortunately, she's too far out there to even win the GOP nomination. And God forbid if she did, an Obama vs. Palin Presidential election would be as lopsided as Reagan vs. Mondale in '84 or Johnson vs. Goldwater in '64.

21. Palin is not going to be president.
She's not even going to be the Republican nominee. Republicans are going to throw everything they have at Obama in 2012, and they know that they can't win with Palin at the top of the ballot.

26. probably not. but given the clout the right-wing fundamentalist have in today's modern Republican
Party - the possibility of someone who shares the same essential apocalyptic worldview either becoming President or serving in the most senior defense of foreign policy posts and thus influencing the policy of a future Republican administrations is frighteningly high.

5. Graham: Theological FAIL. Palin's opinion: IRRELEVANT
Allah is the same as Yahweh, Jehovah - the exact same "God" as Judaism and Christianity.

if you're willing to say that all monotheisms are "very evil and wicked", i can abide that.

13. Graham was just on CNN saying he doesn't like the way Islam treats
women and minorities.

All I can say is the Christian faith doesn't have the best record on how they treat women and minorities, either.

His backtracking doesn't work. He said what he said. Either own it, or show, really show and feel remorse for generalizing a group of people, and their faith.

I sure hope we are doing our homework and getting a ton of video of Republican leaders with Palin or supporting her. She's like another Bush to help us with 2010 and 2012 if we play our cards right, IMO.

30. Oh goody..
she's playing the my God is better than your God card.

Hyper-politically correct? This from the woman who feels the need to slam every person that uses any version of "retard", this from the woman who doesn't like being called out on her violent rhetoric.

Did Sister Sarah ever denounce the homophobic/racist slurs that her devotees hurled. No? Didn't think so, I'm sure she thought we were being hyper-politically correct.

Palin...do as I say..not as I do. :wtf:

31. She is only following the agenda of her lunatic on line followers.
Some of whom have been saying an awful lot worse for a long time. You just need to read some of her fan sites to see what kind of lunatic fringe that she has attracted.

If you thought the PUMA bigots were bitter nuts about the Hillary loss during the Primaries - wait to see what will happen when Palin loses the Republican Primaries. Many of the PUMA idiots became extremely radical Palin supporters and they are learning new dirty tricks.

If I had anything to do with Palin security I would not let them anywhere near me. There are fans and there are extreme fanatics. Her online Palin supporters almost all fall in to the latter category.
