You Can't Show Some Lady's Bod In The Middle Of 'Dancing With The Stars'!
Edited on Fri Apr-23-10 02:49 PM by Lucian
From the NPR Blog:

So there's a story going around that this Lane Bryant lingerie ad was not warmly received by ABC or Fox -- according to Lane Bryant itself, Fox wouldn't show it during American Idol without edits and ABC wouldn't show it during Dancing With The Stars, except at the very end.

And if you think about it, if that's true, it makes perfect sense.

I mean, in particular, you can't just show a lady's body in the middle of Dancing With The Stars.

More at above link, including pictures and the ad in question.

1. The ad features a more zaftig woman. We must only show naked size 0 ladies.

16. Is that a massive wardrobe malfunction or did her outfit really START like that?
I mean, I can see them gettin' all hot and sweaty and cavorting around like rabid weasels in heat, but I would think ABC/Faux would draw the line at ripping off your partner's clothes right there on TeeVee in front of God and everybody. Just sayin'.

20. Oh you can bet Oreilly will bitch about this over and over on his show
and put up that picture over and over just to emphasize his chagrin.

2. You can show bodies, but apparently, it's only acceptable
if the women in question are borderline stick figures!

6. Gotta love the double standard, eh?
I hate it.

I saw nothing wrong with the ad. In fact, the woman in it was smoking hot! She's definitely more attractive than the ones on DWTS.

3. Once again proving that a lot of American's views on sex and the human body are fucked up
But hey, I bet that ABC and Faux would be just fine showing the latest, most realistic shoot 'em up CGI game for the Play Station and such:eyes:

4. There's women bigger than a size 2 in those commercials!
It's completely unacceptable!

:sarcasm:

One of the female pro dancers on "DWTS" evidently had some kind of wardrobe malfunction the other night, so claiming there's too much skin in that commercial just makes ABC look stupid.

7. ABC and Fox have a problem with the ad...
because it features what they would call a "plus size" woman. They have no problem showing Victoria's Secret ads with women who are a size 2 or 0. But god forbid if she's a 12. :eyes:

I found the woman in the Layne Bryant ad to be damn near perfect.

12. Maybe women over a size 2 need to turn ABC and FOX off
After all, there is nothing in that ad that would be objectionable to anyone else.

15. Not every woman can be a size 2
And it's about time that advertisers realized it. Many of us wear size 12 and larger, not because we are overweight, but because we have bodies that fit our height. Not every 6 foot woman is a petite size 0 on extra long legs.

8. undoubtedly more about her size, and Lane Bryant's focus on "plus" sized women
You know, those who can't make it into the pages or cover of Cosmopolitan or Glamour, regardless of how shapely or beautiful they are. More size discriminatin/bigorty in action.

The model in the commercial was gorgeous.

17. Post 9pm is a normal restriction for many commericals ...
As someone who clears commercials for clients with network BS&P on a daily basis, I can tell you that many products get a Post 9pm restriction (some Post 10pm, Midnight) depending on product and content.

It's my job to fight it out and sometimes you win, sometimes you don't.

As far as Victoria's Secret ads, they were Post 9pm as well.

I cleared theatrical commercials for years and the movie rating (example: R) dictacted scheduling restrictions and it irks me that my video game clients are under different rules for games rated M than movies rated R.

BTW, I really liked the LB ad and would have loved to fight for it with Fox and ABC. :)

18. I don't get it. It seems that ABC / Fox would have been happy to promote this ad...
Why interject themselves into a debate over what constitutes 'beauty'?

The ad should not have been offensive to viewers. So why block it? Edit it?

Sounds like someone decided to impose their own personal standards, which lie outside the mainstream of opinions held by the great majority of our citizens.

21. I find that rather ironic....
...given that Niecy Nash is on DWTS this season, wearing the standard costumes and doing quite well. She makes no apologies for her size.

24. LB's plus size model had a flat stomach.
Interesting that they would find that, since I would imagine many plus size women do not have flat stomachs. I'm quite thin and even I don't have a flat stomach.

She's gorgeous, whatever her size.

I also envy her beautiful flat stomach.
