Homeless mom of 15 searches for answers
TAMPA - The din of Room 168 at the Economy Inn on East Busch Boulevard occasionally drowned out conversation.

Twelve children ranging in age from 6 months to 11 years old spent the past week there, scrambling across the floor, bouncing on beds. Their eyes filled with resignation Wednesday morning; they were hungry and dirty - wearing the same clothes as the day before and the day before that.

Angel Adams, the mom, was asking for help as the children rambled about the room. She was homeless and hopeless, she said. A relative paid for the motel room for a week, and after that, who knows. Her fiance is in prison.

With measured indignation, Adams said somebody owes her.

By the end of the day Wednesday, help had arrived.

2. I don't know, I smell a weird underlying motive with this story.
It's obviously a ridiculous situation, the most exaggerated "welfare queen" situation I've ever read--but what is the motive for sharing the details of this woman's terrible irresponsibility and negligence?

5. LOL. Could be. This is just a weird and unusual situation--and I'm not sure
what is gained by reporting details such as the children's names (odd as they are).

9. Right, like quoting "Somebody owes me"--this woman is very probably mentally ill.
This article doesn't seem to serve any beneficial purpose.

4. Well, that's red meat for the teabagger, freeper crowd...
No push button issue lacking and sure to bring lots of compassion for the many who are responsible and likewise needing help.....not.

But I do daresay that maybe not having another kid might be a fantastic fucking idea for this particular person.

This sure has a get the knee jerkers to "throw out the baby with the bathwater" feel to it in many cases.

33. I think the mother's own words will dampen the taste for red meat a bit:
"I can have as many as I want to," she said. All her kids, she added, "are gifts from God."

Real Christian God-fearin' Teabaggers won't be able to refute her argument.

8. Answer #1. Stop having a baby a year.
Edited on Fri Apr-23-10 12:38 PM by rocktivity
Answer #2. Avoid getting knocked up by men who are not good providers.

Answer #3. Get some job training at wages that can get you off welfare and keep you off.

Answer #4. At least try to get child support from their other two fathers.

Answer #6. Seriously consider putting the youngest children back into foster care.

Answer #7. Come to terms with the fact that having as many babies and you want while someone else owes isn't working for you.

Answer #8. Try to become the subject of a reality show.

11. You left out, 1 a. send the youngest kids up in a hot air balloon,
call the media (right after your contact at TLC) and wait for the money (or the kids) to "rain" down.

Edited on Fri Apr-23-10 12:43 PM by hlthe2b
just because it is through tax deductions and not directly through welfare/social services, does not mean the Duggars are doing it all on their own. They've been popping out their litter for a much longer time than they have been on TLC or whoever produces their show.

18. Re-read the article.. This is so damned contrived to outrage
the reader by pushing every single button of irresponsibility and disgust, there is very likely something else at play... And, it is the reader that is getting played, I suspect.

19. I've read the article, thanks.
And I'm not the one attacking her. There are likely a lot of families like hers. There certainly were when I was growing up, so I doubt the practice has disappeared.

28. "families like hers"?
my experience growing up was that the families with 9 or 10 kids tended to be stable catholic families, and dad had a steady job. not this clusterfuck of irresponsible breeding.

there wasn't so much homelessness back then, either - housing was way cheaper. my parents bought a 4 bedroom house for 19K in 1969.

26. This story (if it's legit) should be forwarded to anyone who is anti-abortion:
The anti-abortion crowd should be falling over themselves to help this woman -after all, she had a choice, and she "chose life". I'll hold my breath. In any case, there is something fishy about this story.

34. "I can have as many kids as I want to"
May not agree with it but she certainly can. Whether or not she is fit to KEEP those babies is highly debatable.

And she named one of them John the Baptist. Is she feeding them grasshoppers or something?
