1. No, under the surface they are after the last strong union in the USA: Government Workers.
If they could render this union impotent, it's FREE REIGN Crony Capitalism throughout the USA.

2. The goal is to show that new regulations are not needed,
but they should just make sure that the regulations in place are enforced. I have a suspicion that this is the tactic. They want to show that this whole mess would never have happened if these people weren't "asleep at the controls". "Pay no attention to which administration this happened under.", they will say. "The real issue is that no new financial reform regulations are necessary. The old ones just need more vigilance.", they will declare...with a nudge and a wink.
