1. Will do!
It won't be much, but it won't be nothing either!

I'd like to see him stick around for a while.

I don't think we have to be Isolationists, but Paul's message about not interfering with other nations really rings a bell for me and millions of others.

2. Oh this is gonna get locked for sure...
Did you miss that part in the rules about not working "against" democratic candidates?

Not to mention he is a prick from my own home state I would rather see out of the political arena completely....

3. Hell no! Ron Paul is probably the smartest guy they've got.
I don't want them to nominate anyone like that! I hope they nominate the biggest mouth-breathing fundie nutcase they've got--someone like Santorum. Someone who will appeal to the backwash and ONLY the backwash! It would serve them right for pandering to that constituency all these years.

4. May be worth a try
I wonder what would happen if the GOP ended up with Paul as their candidate ? Disband ? Paul's trouble is that he would practice what the Reaganites preach. And there is no profit for Corporate America that philosophy.

8. If the GOP actually ended up with Paul as their candidate, they'd probably win
Edited on Fri May-04-07 10:31 AM by slackmaster
He's the only one who isn't out in right field on abortion, and his Iraq war policy would be acceptable to many of us here.

You might not agree with his answer on stem cell research (no Constitutional provision for funding it), but it is a principled stance.

ETA that is not going to happen of course. The far-right fundamentalists will never allow it.

Too bad we don't have any real choices in this country.

10. We could do worse than Paul.
Actually we've been doing far worse for over 6 years.

--- " Too bad we don't have any real choices in this country. ---"

That's what bothers me most. Here we are a country of 300 million people and who did the major parties choose in 2004 ? Bush and Kerry. Two guys who have far more in common with each other than either does with the average American voter. What's the odds of selecting two fraternity brothers (skull and bones) for such an honor ? Yeah, I know -- it will probably happen again this time with a different fraternity.

5. Why him?
I know it's not really up to me; but whatever happens in America affects the world.

He's against the war, which is great; but from everything I've read about him, he seems to be pretty bad on most other things: an anti-immigrant bigot, extremely anti-choice for women (which for a 'libertarian' is very sexist), and EXTREMELY economically right-wing (worse than most Republicans or Tories, in that he wants to abolish taxation altogether, not just make it less progressive).

I hope you can elect a good anti-war Democrat!

6. It's really more about his effect on the over-all discourse.
He definitely divides the Republicans by making sense compared to all of those guys who would be bombing Iran FIRST if they were in charge.

Libertarian ideas are relatively unknown to the general Public; I think anything that widens the discourse is good for the People, because it frees their minds from their habits. I don't see Libertarians dominating, I don't think that IS possible, but Libertarians can cause people to get creative with their basically Democratic or Republican mindsets and that IS a good thing, because it wrests the control away from professional political operatives like Rove and the DLC.

7. Most of my GOP friends are libertarian and like Ron Paul a lot
He's anathema to the religious right of course, but his message is consistent and he's not a hypocrite on anything.

13. Donate to Gilmore or Romney....
.... Anyone of our people has them in any poll.

It was pretty much agreed that the debate did one thing last night.... firmed up democratic support!
