2. Ron Paul and Mittens were the big winners
according to several insta-polls. Brownback improved one point, whoopee. Giuliani was the big loser and McCain also lost a few approval points.

I honestly couldn't watch much of it. It looked like a police lineup of mobsters, the questions were banal and the answers were rehearsed talking points that didn't have a whole lot to do with the questions.

The one that floored me was "What don't you like about America?" That one was just as dumb as the hedge fund question they threw at the Democrats.

The GOP ship of state is sinking fast.

10. I told you, Hagel Bloomberg & Thompson sat back and watched the rest implode...
there is plenty of time for them to jump in later and scoop up the nomination.

Except for Ron Paul, they all looked alike, sounded alike, and basically have the same positions on most issues.

My biggest fear is Hagel will step in win the Nomination in a big way ... IMHO Fred Thompson will not register with the 'political public' at a time when the war in Iraq is the front burner issue --does anyone really believe Repubs will turn to a TV actor to fix this problem?

The closest race would likely be between John Edwards and Chuck Hagel. Both poll well with the key voting block --independents/undecideds and unaffiliated voters. It would be a barnburner if Hagel can make the public believe he has little in commmon with the present Republican Party and its leaders, and that he would turn back the clock to 'traditional' Republican values and a moderate on key issues. Right now Edwards has the advantage with that group.

13. Exactly
These idiots are self-destructing and burning through any capital they've raised in an attempt to just tread water. Paul is about the only one I can think of who hasn't made any revealing and embarrassing gaffes, or isn't so far to the right as to be unelectable by anyone. He's the only one who didn't make me retch, who didn't spout the line that the problem in Iraq was that the American people disapprove.

I think that in a few months, or closer to the end of the year, we'll see some new faces to push these guys out.

14. Wow... you must not remember Ronald Reagan...
ie - an actor.

Besides, he was a politician before he was an actor - he just has the big name recognition because he was an actor.

And, I hope John Edwards isn't our nominee. I'd like to be able to vote for the Democrat and he won't get my vote. I don't trust him (or any of the Republicans).

34. I don't know why DUers think Repubs want an anti-war candidate
You know that the frontrunners are all warmongers, right? Take a look at the polls with warmonger Giuliani beating anti-war candidates like Obama in blue states. For many, many voters, it isn't all about the war.

Ron Paul will continue to poll horribly.

Between his record and his own ego he'll be easy to take down once he hits the general provided our candidate and campaign is willing to strike hard, fast, and without mercy.

It gives us a chance to express our ideas.

I think Ron Paul's views and integrity are head and shoulders above all the other clowns in that debate.

30. since when
does relegating women to second class status = "integrity"?

of course, everyone else in the room also agreed with relegating women to second class status. except for equivocal Rudy with his "oh, it would be okay whether, or not, RvW were overturned". actually, that was worse than everyone else in the room.

33. I measure traits like integrity and honesty on a continuum from -1 to +1
Edited on Fri May-04-07 04:44 PM by slackmaster
With -1 being someone who is dishonest and hypocritical at every juncture, and +1 as being perfectly consistent and trustworthy. There is no such thing as "no integrity" - Someone at 0 can be trusted only half the time. All of those GOP candidates fall between the extremes.
