I don't get it.
A couple of days ago 15,000 people showed up at Illinois capitol demanding that the state raise taxes instead of cutting funding for education, health services and other programs. Outside of local media and Thomm Hartmann there was no mention of it. In the local media it only got a few seconds of coverage. But a few hundred at a tea bagger klan rally gets the front page and the lead story.
Outside of the sponsor Fox noise, the propaganda arm of the Repuke party, they shouldn't get anywhere near the coverage that they get. I just don't get it.

1. I'm not prone to conspiracies, but
your story is not the first I have heard. I'm definitely beginning to think more is at work here than meets the eye.

5. It's a shame that I have to go to foreign sources to get the news
Without hours of tea klux klan coverage.

16. Like in Babylon 5 ... the Minbari diplomat read "Earth Today" ("future version of USA Today")
for the "Eye on Minbar" column ... to find out what was going on in her homeworld, whereas the "news" she gets is filtered to remove some things she wasn't supposed to be aware of ...

4. Tea partied bring in more viewers
News isn't selected by how important the news is but rather by how many viewers it will attract, some of whom will watch the ads.

11. Much news coverage is dictated from network offices and boardrooms,
"they only show what sells" might have been true once, but those days are long gone.

7. I heard about it on the radio
last night when I came into work (I work third shift in Danville, IL). Oddly enough, my boss listens to the local hate radio station 98.5 WIBQ out of Terre Haute, IN and it said something about it during a Faux News break from Savage. I didn't expect it at all even though I had heard about it on a local message board.

8. I liked the way John Mayer phrased the problem . . .
"Waiting for the World to Change". . .

And when you trust your television
What you get is what you got
Cause when they own the information, oh
They can bend it all they want

It's been true from the beginning; Freedom of the press really only belongs to those who own a press. We on the outside are left to fume at their choices while we seek stronger methods to influence them and better means to get the word dispersed. It's why I have great hope for the internet: It allows us all to be publishers.

9. Tonight I revisted an old favorite for insight.
The song was "America Fuck Yeah" By Matt Stone and Trey Parker, who have recently had their lives threatened by Muslim extremists.

It contains the timeless lyrics: "America, fuck yeah, so lick my butt and suck on my balls." It turns out that of all the many songs that came out at that time, these lyrics were the most prophetic, telling of the coming of the teabaggers, who would fight with American flags pasted all over their bodies in the name of testicle sucking for pure American awesomeness. These two guys nailed the spirit of the Right more than anybody.

And I do mean SPIRIT of the right. Youtube provides a random series of characters to index each video uploaded in the URL. Is it a coincidence that the video linked to above contains the string "FoXbj" in the URL, as in "Fox blow job"? I report, YOU decide... But I for one think its a little TOO much to be a coincidence, something higher must be at work... Like a spirit.

But anyway, the point is, what's driving the media is the pure power of American flags painted on the body testicle sucking awesomeness. Fox news is so invested in it, nobody cares. But CNN is suffering hard, losing ratings while claiming to be the impartial network... Yet they are addicted to reporting on Fox created ballsucking phenomenon they don't control while ignoring actual news. A truly humanitarian act on our parts would be guiding them to ignore ballsucking and report on the kind of actual news the OP reports above. Help them ease into the act of actually reporting on reality.

Peace,
<ME

as part of a segment on the fact that people tend to like government. But your broader point is correct.

That really is all you need to know (along with the attack on public education).
