Army Goof Leaves Honorably Discharged Soldier Jailed for AWOL

An Oregon man honorably discharged from the U.S Army two years ago was arrested Wednesday after he was mistakenly listed as being AWOL.

It took a flurry of phone calls to cut through the red tape and set this ex-soldier free. Eileen Wolters spent all afternoon on the phone fighting through layers of bureaucracy on her son's behalf.

Joe Wolters was arrested at his home Wednesday morning. The army said he was AWOL, Absent Without Leave.

The Army's own paperwork shows Joe was honorably discharged more than two years ago in February of 2005 after serving a year in Iraq driving military tanks.

3. One more way in which the army is broken.

Not enough troops to supply the war of choice, and they go after the discharged ones. It reinforces the troops are seen as numbers......alive get to the front and dead, swept under the rug.
