May I request a channel change?
I went with my husband to the VA hospital yesterday and they had Fox News playing in the waiting area for the pharmacy. The last time I was there, they had Fox news playing also. The last time it elicited a few "redneck" comments which I largely tried to ignore. This time a guy showed up, sat down and opened his Glen Beck book and started proclaiming loudly to the other waiting veterans that Obama was ruining the country with his socialism and so forth. I had all I could take and got up and left. I left my husband setting there with the rednecks as I knew I would say something in a minute that probably would not have been very nice. I really find the Fox news channel offensive and being forced to sit there and listen to it in the waiting area is awful. It just winds up the red neck Veterans and gets them started on the same old Republican venom filled agenda, which I find even more offensive. I live in southern Illinois so I may be the odd man out down here but seriously, can't they change the channel to MSNBC or CNN or SOMETHING other than Fox news? I looked over at the pharmecy and they were very busy and I didn't think it warranted me standing in line to complain about the station. I have thought about writing the Director of the VA Hospital but realize he would probably just blow me off. What would you do? I am at the point that I am going to load my arms up with Keith Oberman, Hillary Clinton, Obama, etc. books and take them with me next time and place them around me in a circle of protection!!!!!

17. It was pretty hard to ignore . . .
There were about five men and they just kept getting louder and more angry sounding, it was a tea party in the making. All that Fox News playing does is wind up the ones who are bent this way anyway.

There were these huge monitors in the auditorium where we were forced to wait...for hours...and on the monitors....FAUX NOISE was playing. I was so pissed...and when I asked the person who was behind the "desk" about it, he said he had no control over it...which I believe.

But I was pissed as hell that they were playing this crap ALL DAY...to a captive audience!!!

I do intend to write a few letters about this.

I even had my TV B GONE..but they were remote monitors and it did not work..

11. That's awful, Brooklyn!
Did this happen in Brooklyn? Or are you a Brooklyn expatriate? I guess I can't believe they'd play Fox news in a New York City jury room.) I'm a Philadelphian, and thank goodness I've never been subjected to Fox while waiting for jury assignments. I've always loved living in an effete Eastern Establishment (yeah, sure!) city.

13. To be fair they couldn't show you anything
with actual news on it. Might taint your judgement.

16. Exactly what I said to my husband . . .
"Bald Guy", ironic isn't it that they were complaining about socialism while they were sitting in a Government ran hospital getting free health care. I mentioned that very thing to my husband when he came out to the parking lot. My husband said it got even worse after I left so it was probably a good thing I did not stay around.

5. I sympathize with you. Whenever I travel and Fox is on in a hotel lobby...
...I insist that the manager switch to something more neutral than the "Fox Right-Wing Propaganda Network" - amazingly, they usually switch it.

In such circumstances, I find it most relaxing to enjoy classical music on my I-pod.

12. I'm another "odd man out" in Southern Illinois. We may be a minority, but we make up
for it by being right.

I'd be willing to bet that there are more than a few in your community who like and respect you, not because you're a Democrat but because you're a good person. These people need to know that you do not agree with the ignorant BS that swirls around us every day. Some of them already agree with you and think THEY are the odd man out.

Others will wonder how what a nice person like you thinks is right could possibly be as bad as the loudmouth rednecks are portraying it.

We owe it to ourselves and our neighbors to be visibly and audibly liberal if that's who we really are. That doesn't mean we have to drop to their level and be offensive. We are better informed and all we need to do is speak the truth:

"There are no death panels.
The VA---and social security and medicaid and medicare---are "socialist" in nature.
Obama has not done one thing to take away anyone's guns."

As for true wingnut Tea Baggers, this is the best response I've ever heard to their screaming nonsense: "Barack---Hussein---Obama! Still stings, doesn't it?"

18. The waiting rooms for various services (medical, dental, auto, etc)
that I have experienced have the teevee volume down but capions are on.

So rather than read the captions, isn't it possible to read an outdated magazine or a book brought from home?

19. no captions and it was loud . . .
Everyone in the room was being forced to listen to Fox News at full volume and then when the red necks got started, they were even louder.
